June Elizabeth Workman

June Elizabeth (Carlson) Workman, 97, passed away on Sunday, December 24, 2023, at Brookside Retirement Community in Overbrook, Kansas.

June was born June 3, 1926 in Osage City, KS; the daughter of Fred William and Jessie Leota (Newman) Carlson. She grew up in Osage, attending Osage City High School, before uniting in marriage with Phil Workman on January 14, 1943. In the spring of 1948, June and Phil began working their farm 5 miles southwest of Harveyville, purchasing it a year later. Together, they worked and made their home there for 50 years before retiring and moving to Burlingame, KS.

In Burlingame, June was an active member of many community organizations including the Saturday Afternoon Club, Osage County Arts & Crafts Club, and serving on the boards of both "The Friends of the Library" and the "Burlingame Historical Preservation Society". June was also very active in the Burlingame Federated Church where she spent many years volunteering in the nursery, helping to arrange funeral dinners, and countless other functions and Bible Studies. One of these Bible Studies was hosted by June in her home for many years.

Preceding June in death is her husband, Phil Workman; an infant son, at birth; sisters, Ruth Carlson, Wilma Gilliland, Anna Lane, Judy Magnuson, and Ida Weltho; brothers, Robert Carlson, Richard Carlson, Earl Carlson, Fred Carlson, Charles Carlson, and Paul Carlson; and foster son, Gene Burgess.

June's loving memory lives on in the hearts of her sisters, Mary Morris of Elk Grove Village, IL, Sue Droegemeier of Reading, KS, Jennie Benton of Bullard, TX, and Sharon Coates of Whitney, TX; brother, Jerry Carlson of Olathe, KS; foster son, Marion L. Burgess of Tyler, TX; and countless other relatives, loved ones, and friends.

Services for June will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, December 30, 2023, at the Federated Church of Burlingame, 322 S Topeka Ave, Burlingame, KS, with visitation at 10:00 AM, prior to services. Interment will be held at Burlingame Cemetery following services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Federated Church of Burlingame, The Burlingame Library, or the Burlingame Historical Preservation Society, sent c/o VanArsdale Funeral Chapel, 107 N 6th St, Osage City, KS 66523.
