Junior Alfred "Jay" Cole, 78, of Quincy, passed away Monday, December 11, 2023, at home. He was born on December 19, 1944 in Hillsdale to Clarence and Jennie (Crall) Cole. Jay married Velma (Kintigh Herman) on June 14, 1986 and she survives.
Jay graduated from Litchfield High School in 1963. Jay started as a salesman, which allowed him to travel all over the country. Later on, he owned the NAPA store in Litchfield called Cole's Auto Parts. Jay also worked in shipping and receiving at Hilex in Litchfield. Jay dabbled in several things but truly enjoyed songwriting and filmmaking, of which he directed and wrote the soundtrack for the film "In the Name of Freedom", based in Litchfield. He loved harness racing as an owner, trainer, and driver, which he competed in for over 30 years in Michigan and Ohio. He was also on several boards including, Butler Township Planning Board and Butler Township Board of Review. There wasn't a day that went by that he wasn't watching John Wayne western movies.
In addition to his wife, Velma, Jay is survived by two daughters; Debbie (Bob) Kelly of Jackson, and Kathy (Gary) Albright of Reading; two sons, Michael John Cole of Arizona, and Rick (Roxanne) Herman of Coldwater; one brother, James (Chris) Cole of Hillsdale; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
