Justin Gronley Obituary

Justin Gronley

Justin Carter "J" Gronley, 23, passed away on February 20, 2025, in Kalispell, Montana, surrounded by family and friends. Born on February 28, 2001, in Kalispell, Justin grew up immersed in the outdoors, raising animals, playing sports, and embracing a life deeply connected to the forest and mountains.

He attended West Valley School and Glacier High School in Kalispell before pursuing his passion for working with animals. Following in his uncle Jake's footsteps, he trained at Cow Town Horseshoeing School in Miles City and had begun a career as an apprentice farrier while also working at Hedstrom Dairy. His work allowed him to be outside and connected to the animals and farming and ranching community he loved-a community that undoubtedly loved him in return.

An avid outdoorsman, Justin found joy in pack trips in the wilderness, hunting big game, shed hunting, fishing-especially ice fishing-and simply being in nature. He had a deep appreciation for the simple things: black coffee at sunrise, the warmth of a campfire, sleeping under the stars, baby animals and classic John Wayne movies. Whether working on his truck, spending time at the cabin, or driving dirt roads with friends, he embraced life with quiet strength, unwavering loyalty and an adventus spirit. His natural connection with animals was undeniable, and his strong work ethic made him someone others could always count on for help-whether caring for livestock, assisting with a 4-H project, fixing fences, or pulling a friend out of a ditch, Justin would be there if you needed help.

Justin was a tradesman who was always working with his hands. Skilled in wood and leatherworking, he crafted beautiful pieces that his family and friends will forever cherish. He also enjoyed mechanics and always had a project to fix or improve a truck. His trade skills were learned through time spent with family and friends, especially his Papa.

On February 28, 2022, Justin was in an accident that would forever change the trajectory of his life. Although confined to a wheelchair and unable to speak, his true grit never wavered. He continued to show strength despite insurmountable odds, finding joy in the outdoors, watching his brothers play sports, enjoying old westerns, and being around animals. Surrounded by family, friends, and his devoted caregivers-his "entourage"-he remained a strong presence in the lives of many.

Justin is survived by his mother, Cody Bartholomew; stepfather, Joel Bartholomew; father, Jeff Gronley; stepmother, Mary Gronley; siblings Aiden Gronley, Addison Gronley, Cruz Bartholomew, and Jett Bartholomew; grandparents Sue Vaughn, Jamie and Lynne Gronley, and Tim and Marla Bartholomew, all of Kalispell; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandfather Larry Vaughn and great-uncle Dallas Gronley.

A memorial gathering will be held on March 2, 2025, at Easthaven Baptist Church in Kalispell at 2:00 PM. A reception will follow at Sunrift Beer Company (55 1st Ave WN), where food and drinks will be provided. Friends and family are invited to come together to share stories and memories of Justin.

Justin's presence and infamous smirk will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He will forever be remembered in sunrises and campfires, elk bugles, and the sound of a diesel engine accelerating. His kindness, dedication to his family and others, and love for the outdoors and animals leaves an enduring legacy that will not be forgotten.

Our thoughts, prayers, hugs, and love are being sent from CA! Justin will be in our hearts forever! And while we don't have many elk bugles by us, I will think of him when I hear our pack of coyotes calling at night, and we will plant a tree here in his honor! Love free forever, J! We will miss you!

We watched J´s confirmation speech video this week and heard him read about putting on the full armor of God. (Ephesians 6) Justin knew Jesus as his Savior and that is the hope that sustains us. Love you, J! - Aunt S
