It is with greatest sorrow, but even greater expectation of future reunion, we share with you the passing of our beloved Mother, Justine (Muncy) Maynard, 86, at her home, on August 8th at 8:50 AM following an acute exacerbation of COPD
Justine was born on January 22, 1938 in Southeastern Kentucky and was currently residing in Malta, Ohio.
Being the Matriarch of our family, she raised 5 children, Betty (Dwight) Charles, Ricky (Kathy) Maynard, Donald (Elsie) Maynard, Kathy (Cary) Pickenpaugh, and Billy (Reba) Maynard.
She was preceded in death by her husband and our Father, William (Billy) Gene Maynard, Her Mother Louise (Stanley) Muncy, her Father Robert Muncy, her brothers Howard, Shelton, and John Muncy, Her sisters Kay (Muncy) Gardener and Kathy (Muncy) Kester.
She was Grammie/Grandma to Tina Charles, James and Bobby Maynard Jr., Crystal (Maynard) Patterson, Donny Maynard, Jr., Sueellen (Maynard) Nicholas, Katie (Maynard) Makin, Apache Setters, Heather Amos, Shawn Matlock, Michael Schramm, Robert Pickenpaugh, Angela (Pickenpaugh) Reed, James Pickenpaugh, Billy Maynard Jr., Shawn Maynard along with their respective spouses and many great and great great-grandchildren combined.
After marrying Billy Gene Maynard in 1954, she was a dedicated stay-at-home Mom/homemaker for approximately 20 years. After Billy Gene passed on June 4, 1975, Mom was challenged to find her place in the workforce without any formal experience other than that of a Homemaker. None-the-less, being blessed by God to be the strong, resilient and independent woman she was, she, by His mercy, pulled herself together and proceeded to gain employment at Pikeville Methodist Hospital. When she later moved to Ohio, to be with her extended family, she secured employment at Malta Manufacturing for a span of 20 years.
She took comfort in that fact that, by the Grace of God, despite the responsibilities of having four of her five children still at home while residing in Kentucky, and three after moving to Ohio, she managed to provide for them without asking for or accepting supplements from any state assistance programs.
God blessed her with several good years of retirement to enjoy her hobbies and some traveling before COPD restricted her activities.
Mom has been a Child of God for many years and a member of The Church along the Way for more than two decades. We have extreme comfort and solace in knowing as she exhaled her last breath on Earth, her Spirit inhaled its first in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ... and that, in itself, is a cause for rejoicing! Till we meet again Sweet Momma, we will keep on the firing line. May God's face shine upon you, may he be gracious to you and give you peace until we meet our beloved Momma again, nevermore to be parted.
There will not be a traditional funeral service, as Mom had chosen ahead of time to be cremated. However, details for a memorial service in Ohio, and a graveside service in Kentucky when she will be interned with our Dad will be announced in the near future.
