Kenneth Bruce Huebel, age 75, passed away unexpectedly Sunday morning, January 19, 2025, at his residence. He was born in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, the son of the late Harry Russell and Margaret Ann (Neal) Huebel, Sr., on March 24, 1949. Bruce graduated from Southeast Missouri State University. After college he moved to Seattle, Washington where he helped organize a food co-op. He also worked in a recycling center, a childcare center, a parking garage and a bookstore. Bruce was a founding member of the Left Bank Book Collective, which is still in operation today. Bruce also lived for some time in Petersburg, Alaska where he worked in the seafood industry and became an active member of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union. He later returned to Seattle and to his work as a parking valet. In 2016 Bruce retired and moved to Bay City. He enjoyed spending time at the local libraries, and he was an avid book collector, having many rare editions. He also enjoyed many different kinds of music and had a large collection of recordings. He loved visiting with his grand-nieces Margaret and Elizabeth.
Bruce is survived by a brother, Randy (Kaye) Huebel of Cape Girardeau, MO; a sister-in-law, Kathy Huebel of Austin, TX; his nieces and nephews, Anne (Jules Gehrke) Huebel of Midland, Rachel (Aaron Picar) Huebel-Picar of Cape Girardeau, MO, Eric (Staci) Huebel of Jackson, MO and David (Nicole Blair) Huebel of Austin, TX; three grand-nieces and three grand-nephews; his step-daughter, Mallory Musser; and his close friends, Margy Nielsen and Garrison Bromwell. In addition to his parents, Bruce was also preceded in death by a brother, Harry Russell "Russ" Huebel, Jr.
It was Bruce's desire for cremation to take place. His family will hold a celebration of his life at a later date. The family suggests donations in Bruce's memory to the Bay County Library System or the Helen M. Nickless Volunteer Clinic. Funeral home arrangements are being provided by the Trahan Funeral Chapel.
