Karen Diane Butgereit opened her wings to fly home on October 16, 2024 at 9:10 pm. Karen was born on August 24, 1946, to the late Martin and Lucielle Nelson in Thief River Falls, MN.
Karen met and fell in love with her soulmate Melvin Butgereit in 1972. They were united by God in marriage on September 28, 1976. At the time of their marriage, Karen had 4 children, Sue, Kimberly, Edward, and Raymond. Melvin also had four children, Nancy, Shane, Melinda, and Melvin III. Together they had Diana who joined her siblings to make 9 children.
Karen spent her life working many jobs, raising children and helping as many people as she could. She had a passion for taking care of children, which she embraced in her jobs at both Mosinee High School and DC Everest High School. She was known for her amazing cooking, and loved to share it with everyone she knew.
Karen is survived by her husband Melvin Butgereit; Children, Sue Kubichek (Dean), Kimberly Fletcher, Edward LeSieur, Raymond LeSieur (Darlene), Diana Thomas; Grandchildren Amanda Robinson, Ryan Sabatke, Alex Fletcher (Hanna), Benjamin Fletcher, Andrew Falkowski (Alexis), Jordan Thomas (Brittany), Jared Thomas (Jasmine); Siblings, Tom Nelson, Jill Kremsreiter (Lee), Linda Koch, Candy Cynkar, Kim Rasmussen (Sam), and many nieces and nephews, among other loved ones.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Lucielle; Parents in-law, Melvin Sr. and Madeline Butgereit; Siblings, Marsha Smith and Gerry Nelson, Brother in laws; Lenny Cynkar and Dennis Koch. Sister in law. Mary Nelson.
The funeral service will be held on October 28, 2024 at noon, visitation from 10 am until the time of the service at St John Lutheran Church, 901 11th St, Mosinee, WI 54455.
