In Loving Memory of Karen Ann de Forero (née Kracke, formerly Bernhardt)
July 24, 1945 – May 9, 2025
With deep sorrow we announce the peaceful passing of Karen Ann de Forero on May 9, 2025, in Sonoma, California, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on July 24, 1945, in San Francisco, Karen lived a life of unwavering devotion-to her family, her faith, and her community.
Karen grew up in San Francisco, where she attended Holy Name Grammar School and graduated from St. Paul's High School in 1963. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from San Francisco State University. Guided by compassion and purpose, Karen dedicated her life to nursing. She served as a Registered Nurse in hospitals throughout San Francisco, Sonoma, Ukiah, and Santa Rosa. For over 30 years, she served as a Public Health Nurse for the Sonoma Valley Unified School District, caring for generations of students with dedication and heart.
A woman of steadfast faith, Karen was a devoted member of St. Francis Solano Catholic Church in Sonoma. Her belief in love, kindness, and service touched everyone who knew her.
Karen is lovingly survived by her husband, Norberto Forero; her beloved son, Yarrow Bernhardt (Cheryl); and her adored grandchildren: Julia Henderson (David), Beccah, Gabrielle, and Jacob. She was also a joyful great-grandmother to Leo and Judah Henderson, who filled her heart with laughter and pride. Karen is also remembered with love by her siblings, Jim Kracke (Brenda), Diane Danskin (Phil), and Elaine Pedroncelli (Paul); her sisters-in-law, Liliana Forero Franco (Martin) and Adriana Forero Franco; and her brother-in-law, Wilman Forero Franco. She leaves behind a wide circle of nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews who brought her immense joy.
Karen is now reunited with those she deeply missed: her beloved daughter, Heidi Ann Bernhardt; her parents, Walter Kracke and Betty Smith; her brother, Thomas Richard Kracke; and Michael Bernhardt, the father of Heidi and Yarrow and a dear family friend.
She found happiness in life's simple moments-long walks, time with cherished friends, and cheering for her favorite team, the Golden State Warriors. Above all, Karen treasured time with her family and embraced every moment spent together.
To honor Karen's memory, donations may be made to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition, an organization close to her heart.
A Funeral Mass celebrating Karen's life will be held on: Monday, June 16, 2025, at 2:30 PM
St. Francis Solano Catholic Church, 469 Third Street West, Sonoma, California
In keeping with Karen's final wishes, we kindly ask that no one wear black. Instead, she requested that we dress in bright colors-a reflection of the joy, love, and vibrant spirit she shared with us all. Let us gather in celebration of her life, her light, and the many beautiful memories she leaves behind.
