Karen Godwin Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Knesek Family Funeral Chapel - Sealy on Dec. 29, 2025.
Karen Beverly Godwin, lovingly known as Mama Bear, Care Bear, or Grammy by those closest to her, passed away peacefully at her home on December 24, 2025. This date was especially meaningful to Karen, as it marked her anniversary with her beloved husband, Tommy (affectionately known as Grampy).

Karen was born on September 25, 1945, in Plainfield, New Jersey, to David and Mary Pearson. She was raised alongside her brother, David "Skip" Pearson, and her sister, Mary Alice Lake. In her youth, Karen developed a deep love for horseback riding-a passion that stayed with her throughout her life, as she owned and cared for horses for many years.

Karen married her first husband, William Janwich, and together they had three children: Billy Janwich, Sherry Goebel, and David Janwich. She later married the love of her life, Thomas Godwin, on December 24, 1983. They shared nearly 35 wonderful years of marriage before Tommy's passing.

Karen devoted her life to what she loved most-being a wife, a mother, and a grandmother. Family meant everything to her. She celebrated every accomplishment, no matter how small, as something truly special and cherished every moment spent with those she loved.

Karen is survived by her sister, Mary Alice Lake (Gary); her three children, Billy Janwich (Pam), Sherry Goebel, and David Janwich (Angela); her five grandchildren, Beverly Serrettet, Rachael Bundick (Chris), Heather Mascarella (Miles), Deanne Goebel, and Zachary Janwich; and her twelve great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and David Pearson; her brother, David "Skip" Pearson; and her husband, Thomas "Tommy" Godwin.

Visitation will be held on January 2, 2026, at Immaculate Conception Church in Sealy, Texas, beginning at 2:00 p.m., followed by a rosary at 2:30 p.m. and a funeral Mass at 3:00 p.m. Burial will immediately follow at Sealy Catholic Cemetery.

After seven years of waiting, Tommy finally got to kiss his Angel good morning once again. The family wishes to thank everyone who surrounded Karen with love, kindness, and care throughout her life and especially in her final days. Your prayers, visits, and support meant more than words can express and brought great comfort to her and to all who love her.
