Karen Ann Saroj, 72, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2024, after a brief, courageous battle with cancer. Born April 27, 1952, to Robert and Betty (Fullum) Perry, she graduated from Mooers Central School in 1970. She pursued a career in teaching, obtaining her bachelor's and master's degrees at SUNY Plattsburgh, where she met her husband, Satish. Their marriage of 33 years brought four children. Karen worked in Special Education for 28 years, with the majority of her career spent at CVES teaching the careers program before retiring in 2014. Karen found teaching incredibly rewarding, inspiring her students to become their best selves.
She was known for selflessly helping anyone in need, family or stranger, without hesitation. Her bright smile, caring nature, thoughtfulness, sincerity, support, and bringing love and light wherever she went. Karen's friendship was unmatched and she loved spending time with her family and many friends. She loved birds, music, thrift shopping and coffee with friends. Karen was a devoted family woman whose loved ones came first. Her grandchildren Riley, Yoora, and Kiran were her world. She enjoyed travelling and spending as much time as possible with her grandkids while attending their athletic events, telling jokes, and always playing cards and games with them.
She is survived by her sisters Rae McAuliffe, Wendy (Paul) Jarecki, and Connie Tuning, her children Maya, Paul (Yoon), Christopher (Tiana), and Monica, her grandchildren Riley, Yoora, and Kiran, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends. She was predeceased by her parents Robert and Betty (Fullum) Perry, her husband Dr. Satish K. Saroj, and her brothers-in-law John McAuliffe and Randy Tuning.
Calling hours will be July 9, 2024, at Brown Funeral Home at 29 Broad St, Plattsburgh from 1-5 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Trinity Episcopal Church food shelf, Elmore SPCA and Hospice of the North Country.
A special thank you to Dr. Gillett and her oncology team at UVM, her CVPH care team, and the R5 and R6 staff for the wonderful care they provided.
