Karen Janell Sears, age 60, of Chesapeake, VA, died on July 7, 2025, at Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk, VA. Born in Elizabeth City, NC on May 13, 1965, to the late Thurman Russell Sears and Helen Goodson Sears, she dedicated herself professionally as an office manager, where she was known for her dedication and attentive nature.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her loving daughter, Ashley Brickhouse, and her two devoted sons, Steven Brickhouse (Amber) and Gary Brickhouse, Jr. Karen was also the proud grandmother of three grandchildren, Nathan, Maylee, and Lillian Brickhouse, all of whom brought immense joy to her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Helen Darlene Sears, and her brother, Thurman Lee Sears.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during a visitation from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at Twiford Memorial Chapel. A funeral service to celebrate Karen's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 14, 2025, at Poplar Branch Baptist Church, 709 Poplar Branch Road, Grandy, NC 27939. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Poplar Branch Baptist Church in honor of Karen's memory and her enduring faith.
Karen will be dearly missed by her family and friends, but her spirit will remain in the hearts of those who loved her.
