Karen Castle Stackpole, a beloved wife, mother, and friend, passed away in her home at the age of 75 in The Villages, Florida, surrounded by family.
Born on December 6, 1949 in Blowing Rock, North Carolina, Karen grew up with a strong sense of family. She was a graduate of Cox High School in Virginia Beach. In 1970, while working at The Virginian-Pilot newspaper in Norfolk, Virginia, she met John, who later became her husband of 52 years. During their marriage they welcomed two children-Jeff in 1974 and Tracy in 1977-who became the center of her world.
Karen dedicated over 40 years of her life to Brock & Beasley, CPA. She was known for her professionalism, hard work and especially the personal relationships she had with her co-workers and clients.
In 2014, she and John moved to The Villages, Florida, embracing retirement with enthusiasm. An avid golfer and billiards player, Karen found joy in friendly competition. She loved social gatherings and playing cards with her close friends, always bringing laughter and lightheartedness to every occasion. She especially enjoyed the company of her beloved cat, AJ.
Karen had a sharp wit, infectious laugh, and a positive spirit. She embraced life fully and found joy in the simplest moments. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her legacy of love and laughter will live on in those she touched.
Karen is survived by her loving husband, John R. Stackpole Jr.; son, Jeff Stackpole; daughter, Tracy Capewell (Mike); beautiful grandchildren Emily, Lindsay and Owen Capewell; brother, David William Castle; cousin, Sandy Stalls. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray William Castle; Helen Wooten Castle; aunt Polly Martin; uncle Jay Castle; aunt Lucy Castle; cousins Donna Ewing and Cathy Castle.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The American Cancer Society or a charity of choice to reflect Karen's generous spirit and love for others.

Dear John and your family,
Dave and I want to say how deeply sad we feel about losing Karen. We so enjoyed our common love of billiards whenever we played you both on Sunday nights. Karen and I would laugh and joke about how we needed our hubby´s help. She was so easy to love and such a caring and thoughtful lady. We will miss her very much. Sending you and yours love and hugs.

Tracy, Jeff, John, David... my thoughts and prayers are with you guys in this time of loss. For a long time i could stand beside Karen and call her mom. She was a beautiful, bright loving soul. When i was able to see her on her visits back to VA it was so much of a pleasure to sit down and talk with her. The Stackpole family will always feel like family and my heart will always be with every one of you. Karen´s spirit will always live on and watch over her children, husband, friends and beautiful grand children, i believe she would have it no other way. Love and Peace Momma Stackpole!!

We still cannot process that this wonderful woman, who had so much life in her, who brightened even the darkest days of everyone around her is no longer shining her beautiful light into the world. We will forever miss her and we will always cherish all the memories with her, touring the deserts of Utah, watching dancers in The Villages, going to judge a beer competition in Ohio. Rest in peace, beautiful soul!
We are heartbroken for John and the entire family and wish you all peace and strength. Love, Aaron and Alina

John,
So sorry for your loss. I will never forget the summer Karen cared for the feral cats in our backyard. Her good nature and love of cats was evident.
Sincere condolences to you and your family,

We met John and Karen not too long after they moved to The Villages. What a delight it was knowing them. The times we had visiting, playing pool, playing cards, etc., are memories we will never forget. Karen was fun, always had a smile, and always complimented her friends. She was a great hostess, great cook, and always had plenty to eat and drink. We were so sorry to hear the news of her sickness. We wish that we could have spent more time with Karen and enjoyed more of the good times. Thanks for being our friend. RSP Karen, and we know you are taking your smiles to others.

John, Jeff and Tracy,
Carl and I have such wonderful memories of Karen. She was a kind and generous person who welcomed us and so many others into her home for a good meal and a good time. Sitting on the beach or on a blanket at the Virginia Beach amphitheater, Karen´s laugh could be heard above everything else (usually at John´s expense). She, Donna Ewing, and Cathy Castle represent the best of what it means to be family and certainly the standard for Southern hospitality. RIP Karen

I'm so thankful to have had the opportunity to get to know Karen and spend some priceless moments with her and John over the years. She would laugh to hear me say this, but we had so much more in common than either of us would ever admit: Our Southern roots, a love of muscle cars, dark Belgian brews and '70s tunes-just to scratch the surface. She was one of the most gracious hosts I've ever known, and I'll dearly miss our lively dinner conversations. Rest in peace, Karen. And thanks for all the memories.

We met Karen 7 years ago when we moved to The Villages. Karen loved pool and we played once a week every Tuesday night. Karen was always enthusiastic about pool, cooking and get togethers. Karen made a delicious shrimp and grits. We were fortunate to have her in our lives. Karen, our friend you leave good memories and you will be missed.

Karen was such a delight to know. I first met her when she was just beginning to play pool and she joined my ladies league. She learned very quickly and all the gals loved her - easy to play with. I will miss her smile when ever I saw her.
