Karen Lynn Ufkes, 65, of Quincy, passed away peacefully Friday, October 31, 2025, in her home in Quincy, IL.
Karen was born February 2, 1960, in Quincy, IL to William and Helen (Horrell) Sterns. She was married to Stephen Ufkes on September 25, 1976, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Quincy, IL. He preceded her in death on February 17, 2016.
Survivors include her son, William Sterns (Rico) of Quincy; her four grandchildren, Anthony Mayfield (Jessica Miller), Lucricia Rehma (Shawn Tyler), China Ufkes, and Phalon Sterns; seven great-grandchildren; four sisters, Lorena P. Hernandez, Margaret L. Bowen, Loretta A. Bowen and Marilyn Reddick (Kevin); one brother, Donald D. Mason; and eighteen nieces and nephews.
Karen was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and two sisters, Linda Sue Young and Trena J. Mason.
Karen embraced her role as a homemaker with passion and pride, crafting a warm and welcoming home filled with love and laughter. She had an extraordinary affection for animals, particularly her cherished dogs and cats, which she cared for with great devotion throughout her life.
Karen's passion for the simple pleasures in life was infectious. If the TV was on, she was likely watching her favorite westerns. Her love for music was just as profound, with the classic rock sounds of Aerosmith and Poison frequently filling the rooms of her home. In the kitchen, Karen made chicken pot pie and tuna casserole.
Above all, Karen's greatest joy was the time she spent surrounded by her friends and family. Her presence was a source of comfort and happiness, and her ability to make everyone feel valued will be remembered fondly. Her generous spirit and compassionate nature were the cornerstones of her life, and she will be deeply missed.
