Dorothy Marie Miller, 94, of Quincy, passed away Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at Sunset Home in
Quincy, IL.
Dorothy was born October 15, 1931, in
Quincy, IL to Pearl and Gertrude (Rowsey) Glassford. She was first married to Everett Goodwin on May 29, 1948, and he preceded her in death on December 20, 2012. She married Albert I. Miller on May 16, 1974, in Reno, NV. He preceded her in death on June 6, 1988.
Survivors include her three children, David Goodwin, Robert Goodwin (Debbie), and Loretta Hulett (Joel), all of Quincy; twelve grandchildren; many great and great great-grandchildren; and one special niece, Shelia Deming.
Dorothy was preceded in death by both husbands; her parents; one infant daughter, Trudy Goodwin; one son, Frank Goodwin; two daughters in-law, Glenda Goodwin and Patricia Goodwin; two brothers, Dalbert Glassford and Earl Glassford; one sister, Virginia Rumsey; one granddaughter, Melissa Miller; one great grandson, Jacob Landis; and one great granddaughter, Miracle Goodwin.
Dorothy's legacy is marked by her commendable career at Davis Cleaver, where she made a significant impact over the span of 37 years, retiring in 1992. She was a long-standing member of Bethel Assembly of God.
Beyond her professional and spiritual life, Dorothy was a woman of diverse interests and hobbies. She had a passion for collecting dolls and salt and pepper shakers. Dorothy's love for movies was well-known, with the likes of Roy Rogers, John Wayne, and Shirley Temple featuring in her collection of favorites. She took pleasure in the simple joys of solving jigsaw puzzles and the daily challenge of crosswords.
Dorothy's faith was a cornerstone of her existence. She found solace and strength in reading her Bible and listened intently to CDs of preachers, drawing inspiration from their words. In the kitchen, Dorothy's culinary skills were on full display as she crafted her signature dishes: meatloaf, mac and cheese, and the traditional Christmas duck that became a beloved family tradition.
Proudly wearing the title of a military mom, Dorothy beamed with pride for her son David's service in the Marines. Her adventurous spirit took her on memorable journeys to places like Graceland, Phoenix, Las Vegas, and the magical world of Disney. Yet, it was the simple pleasures, like a visit to the St. Louis Zoo to marvel at the elephants, that brought her immense happiness.
Above all, Dorothy's heart was her most remarkable attribute. Her willingness to help others and her open-door policy to anyone in need were the true marks of her character. Her absence will be deeply felt by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
