Born on September 13, 1958, in Heidelberg, Germany, Karen found her way to Orem, Utah, where she embraced life with an unwavering commitment to family and community.
As a devoted family advocate, Karen dedicated her professional life to the service of others, working passionately for Family Watch International at the UN and elsewhere. Her unwavering spirit and compassion touched countless lives, leaving an enduring impact on all who had the privilege of knowing her. Karen's devotion to her cause was matched only by her love for her family, who will carry her memory in their hearts forever.
A loving soul, Karen leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and service. She was a radiant presence in the lives of her friends, family, and all who crossed her path. Her laughter and warmth will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
As we come together to celebrate Karen's life, we encourage all who knew her to reflect on her boundless love and commitment to the betterment of humanity. In our shared grief, let us honor her legacy by continuing to reflect the light she brought into this world.
Karen is survived by her brothers, Scott Merrell, Don Merrell, and Bryan Merrell. She also has many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Karen was preceded in death by her husband Scott Varner, and her parents Dan and LaRay Merrell, and a sister, Nanette Merrell.
Following the service, Karen will be laid to rest at the Springville Cemetery, located at 1997 South 400 East, Springville, Utah, where she will find her final peace.
Funeral services will be held in remembrance of her life on December 16, 2025, at her Orem Ward, commencing at 11:00 AM. A public viewing will precede the service, allowing friends and family to gather from 9:45 AM to share in memories of her remarkable life.
