Karen L. Vawter-Walton, age 69, of Chesterton, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, June 4, 2025. She was born on March 27, 1956, in Valparaiso, Indiana, to Albert "Jaybird" and Lorraine (Nickels) Vawter.
Karen is survived by her loving husband, Mike Walton of Chesterton; son, Grant Vawter; brother, Donald (Charlotte) Vawter; cousin, Nancy (Russell) Duckwall; two aunts, Gee Gee and Joy; many cousins and other extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her aunt and uncle, Millie and Hank Nickels; and aunt, Carol Czekalski.
Karen graduated from Chesterton High School, class of 1974. After graduation she worked as a Security Guard at Bethlehem Steel and a Lifeguard at Indiana Dunes. Karen had a heart of gold and was there for whoever needed her. She loved to take care of elderly people and always had a soft spot for senior citizens. Karen was a big Elvis fan and loved her trip to Graceland. She enjoyed sewing and was a master of it. Karen was an excellent baker, her oatmeal raisin cookies were her specialty. She loved living in Florida and loved the beach and warm weather.
Karen was an amazing mother and lived for her son, Grant. She will be eternally proud of the man that he's become. Karen had a wonderful life with Mike, her husband, who loved her to his core. Karen had five wonderful step-children and many beloved grandchildren that she loved to spend time with.
Memorial Service will be held at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, IN 46304. A memorial visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 from 4:00 pm until the time of service at 6:00 pm at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.ee-fh.com.
