Karen Lee Englert Whitaker, age 81, passed away peacefully with her children by her side on September 8, 2024. Karen was born on February 9, 1943, in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Christopher and Lillian (Baena) Englert.
Karen was a proud graduate of Medina High School Class of 1960 and dedicated much of her life to the Medina community. She worked as a long-time member of the Medina Police Auxiliary and for over 30 years at the Medina Area Chamber of Commerce as well. She was an avid sports fan supporting teams through thick and thin. She also was known for her strong and determined spirit that was an inspiration to all who knew her. But above all she loved her family, including her beloved animals, and her 'grand-animals', who all brought her immense joy. Karen was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who touched the lives of many. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends but will remain forever in their hearts.
Karen is survived by her loving children, Laura (Eric) Carpenter, and Michael (Jacqueline) Whitaker; cherished granddaughters, Lindsey (Bruce) Garba, and Paige (John) Maruschak; beloved great grandchildren, Luke Garba, Colin Garba, Logan Maruschak, and Peyton Maruschak, her legacy lives on through all of them. She is also survived by her beloved sister, Marcia Amistadi; her niece, Jennifer (Timothy) Conkle; and her nephew, Christopher Amistadi.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 12, 2024, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Waite Funeral Home, 765 N Court Street, Medina, Ohio.
Online condolences may be left for the family at www.waitefuneralhome.com.

I'm so sorry to hear of Karen's passing. As my cousin I knew her to be fun to be around and I looked up to her. One thing I will always remember about Karen and her sister Marcia is their collection of beautiful prom dresses, which were given to me to use for "dress up" when I was young. In recent years, I've enjoyed reconnecting with her and visiting her when I was in Ohio. She was a caring person who was dedicated to her family.
