Getz Funeral Home - Las CrucesKarl Matthew Martinez passed away peacefully on October 19, after battling a brief illness. He was surrounded by family and friends as he crossed over to join his beloved brother Daniel. Karl was born on October 6, 1958, to Mary Lee and Jesse Martinez.
He is survived by his parents Jesse and Mary Lee Martinez, sister Patricia Hoover (Gary Hoover), sister Cora Chavez, nieces, Jessica Wilson, Christine Rodriguez (Eddi Rodriguez), Laura McDonald (Fletcher McDonald) and Catie Hoover, nephew Taylor Hoover as well as several great nephews and nieces, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was proceeded in death by his brother Daniel Martinez, his nephew Lawrence D. Chavez, his brother-in-law Lawrence Chavez.
Karl attended Mayfield High School where he graduated in 1976. He was involved in band and student counsel. Karl moved to Phoenix shortly after graduation where he earned an associate’s degree in electronics at DeVry University. Upon graduation he was hired and worked for Honeywell for several years. He left Honeywell and opened a stereo supply and installation business. After closing his business, he returned to work to the corporate world as a sales associate. Upon retiring, he became the loving caregiver to his parents.
Karl was an amazing musician, an animal lover, fabulous photographer and had an infectious sense of humor and a hilarious wit. Karl was loved by many and will be greatly missed as he brought much joy and laughter to so many.
Celebration of life information:
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, November 5, 2025 at Getz Funeral Home 1410 E. Bowman Ave from 5-7 p.m. The Rosary will be recited from 7-8 p.m. Mass will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2025 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral 1240 S. Espina at 1:00 p.m. Reception to follow at the VFW3242 at 2001 N. Mesquite St.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations in Karl’s honor be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choosing.
