Karl Walz

Karl Allen Walz, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2025, at the age of 67 in his hometown of Alpena, where he was also born on January 5, 1958.

Karl's early years in Alpena were filled with the joy of growing up in a close-knit family. He was the beloved son of Gloria (Fred) Spain and the late Allen (Jane) Walz. His bond with his parents was unbreakable, and he shared his father's passion for taxidermy, a hobby they enjoyed together. Karl's love for his family was evident in every facet of his life, and he was a pillar of strength and support for his mother, his brother Jason (Colleen) Spencer, sisters Vicki (AJ) Brookshear and Susan Hamrahi.

On January 3, 1998, Karl married the love of his life, Kim, and together they built a beautiful life filled with love and laughter. His children were the center of Karl's world: Steven Walz, Amanda (Bory) Seigle, Jeremy (Sara) Glomski, Leigh Ann (Jake) Watts, and the late Kaitlyn Jarose. Karl's role as a father was one he cherished deeply, never missing a chance to be involved in his children's lives, from coaching soccer to being the ever-present supporter at their sporting events.

Karl's legacy continues through his adored grandchildren: Keturah, Landon, Onica, Olivia, Cooper, Briar, Charlotte, Ayla, Caleb, Lilly, Kearah, Bayleigh, Maddox, Brice, the soon-to-arrive Holden, niece Kylie Brookshear and great niece Aurora. He was the quintessential "Mr. Fix It," and his grandchildren knew that if Papa couldn't fix it, no one could. His presence in their lives was a source of joy and endless love.

Karl served in the United States Air Force and later went on to be a respected sales engineer for R.A. Townsend, where his intelligence and friendly nature made him a favorite among colleagues and clients alike. His work was more than a job; it was a part of who he was, and he took great pride in his work.

Karl's interests were as varied as they were passionate. An avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting and fishing, often sharing stories of his adventures. He was always seen with a cup of coffee in hand, ready to share a warm conversation with anyone he met. His love for his wife was unwavering, and they celebrated 30 years of marriage, a milestone that reflected their deep connection and mutual respect. To know Karl was to love him – a sentiment shared among everyone who was blessed to know him.
