Alfonse Kamyszek Obituary

Publish in a newspaper

Alfonse Kamyszek, 88, of Alpena, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 26, 2025.

Alfonse was a kind, funny, strong, and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. A devoted catholic, he attended mass faithfully and prayed the rosary nightly with his wife of 67 years, who was the love of his life. Together they built a family rooted in faith, hard work, and joy.

Alfonse worked as a machinist, logger, and owner-operator of a sawmill where he crafted cedar paneling. He and his wife shared a knack for creating beautiful Christmas wreaths and candy canes and worked as a true team in every part of life. He was also an avid horseshoe player who won many trophies, enjoyed camping trips, family picnics, and swimming in the river with his children.

Music was a lifelong passion. Alfonse played the harmonica by ear and was part of the "Variety Band" with his wife and late brother-in-law, offering their music freely at senior centers. He and his wife were known as the best dancers on the floor. He enjoyed hosting and celebrating birthdays and special occasions. Their favorite song was "Are You Mine" by Ernest Tubb and Loretta Lynn, which they often sang together with Alfonse adding the harmonica to the chorus.

He will be remembered for his playful spirit, making silly faces and paper airplanes for his grandchildren, his love of card games and dice, and his steady patience and kindness. His life was a gift to his family and all who knew him, and his legacy of love, faith, and joy will live on.

Alfonse is survived by his beloved wife Margaret, his four children Randy, Theresa (William) Straley, Beverly (Brian) Kienzle, and Shirley (Jeffrey) Diemond; grandchildren Angela, Adam, Matthew, Melissa, Rebecca, Jamie, Nicholas, Kristyn, Wayne, Danielle, Amanda, Maggie, Caitlin, many great-grandchildren who lovingly called him "Jaja", and sister-in-law Geraldine.

Alfonse was proceeded in death by parents Steven and Marcie, daughter Linda, grandson Andrew and siblings Raymond (Hazel), Norman (Marian), Eugene, Edmund (Eleanor), Helen (Arnold) Romel, Dorothy (Joseph) Wallus, and Virginia (Donald) Jennings.

Alfonse is at McWilliams Funeral Home where visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, from 3:00 PM until military honors accorded by VFW Post #2496 starting at 5:30 PM followed by a prayer and rosary service. Visitation will continue Wednesday, September 3, 2025, from 10:00 AM until the time of Mass at 11:00 AM at St. Anne Catholic Church with Fr. Aloysius Okpala officiating. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Alpena All Saints Parish or Hospice of Michigan. On-line condolences may be registered at www.mcwilliamsfh.com
