Karla K Bany, 83, of Elk River and formally Coon Rapids, MN, passed away April 21, 2023, at Guardian Angels Care Center
She was born on the family farm in Frederika, Iowa, the daughter of Emil and Alice (Johnson) Tonn. Karla graduated from Frederika High School as the valedictorian of her class in 1957. She married Paul Bany in 1958. They lived in Iowa, California, Virgina, and France before settling in Minnesota.
Karla would say she worked as a secretary before the modern-day administrative assistant became the norm. She was on speed-dial for some of us as a spelling consultant before spell check became a thing. She also spent many years as a day care provider for little ones who were like part of her family. Karla always loved her flower gardens and like most of us, detested the weeds.
After retirement, there were trips in the "WinneBany" and the RV to visit family and warmer destinations. They recently moved from their Coon Rapids neighborhood to Pullman Place in Elk River. And last summer she began living in Guardian Angels Memory Care Center... the beginning of many levels of goodbye.
She was preceded in death her parents Emil and Alice Tonn, and sister, Darlene Webb. Survived by husband, Paul; children Scott (Julie), Lori (Jeff) Motschenbacher, Curt (Britte), and Angie (Mike) Schmidt; grandchildren Michael, Samantha, David, Danielle, Kyle, Kaitlyn, Tyler, Abby, and Katie; and great-grandchildren Jax, Abel, Fiona, Carsen, Cameron, and Asher.
A private graveside service will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
