Karol Jae Schmidt

Karol Jae (Krant) Schmidt, lovingly remembered for her kindness, thoughtfulness, and compassion, passed away peacefully with her family by her side, on November 13, 2024, at the age of 78, in Mishawaka, IN. Born to Henry "Bud" Krant and Joyce (Kohn) Krant on May 3, 1946, in Buffalo Lake, MN, Karol's warm spirit touched many throughout her journey in life.
A proud 1964 graduate of Buffalo Lake High School, Karol furthered her passion for caring for others by earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Normandale Community College. Her dedication to the nursing profession was evident as she compassionately served her community for over 40 years as a nurse, before retiring from United Health.
Karol was married to the love of her life, Rueben Schmidt, in Buffalo Lake, MN, on December 3, 1966, sharing a life rich in love and adventure until his recent passing on August 29, 2024. A beloved mother, she is survived by her children: Pamela (Mike) Staples, and Randy (Lori) Schmidt; granddaughters, Kerrigan (Anthony) Bane, and Kamryn Schmidt; and grandson, Caleb Staples. Great granddaughter, Kinsley Bane, and great grandson, Alexander Bane. She was a cherished sister to Dave (Kathy) Krant. Karol was preceded in death by her parents and her devoted husband, Rueben.
Karol's zest for life was evident in her numerous interests. An outdoor enthusiast, she found joy in camping and boating, often taking trips with Rueben. She was a cornerstone of the "Ladies pool swim" during their camping escapades. Karol's love of the Minnesota Twins, playing Pinochle, and watching the Red Green Show with her husband, were among her favorite pastimes.
Karol's memory will live on through the love she shared and the lives she touched. Her family will forever remember her as the cornerstone of their lives-a beautiful soul that radiated warmth, generosity, and love. She will be missed deeply and remembered fondly by all who had the privilege to know her.
A memorial visitation will be held on Monday, November 18, 2024 from 12 – 1 p.m. with a memorial service immediately following starting at 1 p.m. at Palmer Funeral Home – Bubb Chapel, 3910 N. Main St. Mishawaka, IN 46545. Pastor Carol Bouse will be officiating services.
Memorial contributions may be donated in Karol's name to a Cancer organization of the donor's choice.
