Karunamoy Bose

Karunamoy Bose, beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2025, surrounded by family and love.

Warm, humble, and of an unwaveringly upright character, he lived his life with quiet strength and open arms. Those who knew him remember his hearty laughter echoing through gatherings, his welcoming presence that made every guest feel seen, and the simple, steady joy he found in life's ordinary moments.

A gifted architect and an esteemed alumnus of the renowned Pratt Institute and Bengal Engineering College (Arch 1960), Karunamoy lent his vision and discipline to the design of landmarks including the Naval Air Station in Maryland and the O'Quinn Medical Tower alongside César Pelli. Yet he would have been the first to say that his deepest fulfillments were not measured in concrete or steel, but in the communities he served. Through his volunteer work with the Houston Durga Bari over the decades, he gave freely of his time and his heart.

In quieter hours, he was most at peace with an acrylic or watercolor paintbrush in hand or a ghazal melody on his lips. He sang the songs of his youth, prayed and meditated with devotion, and was always ready for a picnic or a friendly debate over a tennis match, a soccer game, or a chess matchup. He loved the performing arts, and he loved the energy of life itself.

To his family, he was a source of patience and encouragement, ever the calm center when the world felt uncertain. He was fascinated by lions and Bengal tigers, and those who knew him well understood why. Much like these majestic creatures, he carried himself with composed dignity and watchful strength. But he was also a study in contrasts, embodying both power and tenderness: as a former bodybuilder who could be moved to tears, he might be serene in prayer one moment and electrified by the clash of a wrestling match the next. He commanded respect not through force, but through the elegant tranquility of his presence and the depth of his love.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Reena, and his two daughters, Swati, married to Raghu, and Chandrani, married to Amit. They, along with his grandchildren, Sarina, Trisha, Dilan, Ella, and Mali, will carry forward his example of integrity, compassion, and joyful curiosity. He also leaves behind his cherished younger sister, Krishna De.

His life was a reminder that greatness is not in how loudly one roars, but in how deeply one loves.

A celebration of his life will be held at 10:00 AM, October 13, at Schmidt Funeral Home, West Grand Parkway. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Houston Durga Bari Society, in honor of his lifelong service and artistic spirit.
