Kate Y. Grounds, 94 passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 22,2025.
She was born in Shiogama, Japan October 26,1930 and grew up there during World War II. She met her husband Clarence Grounds, who was serving in the U.S. Army and stationed in Japan. They got married, then Clarence got orders to return to the States. They were married for 54 years until her husband Clarence passed away in 2010.
Kate was a long- standing Buddhist member with SGI-USA (Soka Gakkai International-USA). She is survived by her daughter JoAnn G. Warden and her husband Dale, her daughter Donna G. Flebbe and her husband George and her son Michael R. Grounds. She is also survived by her 6 six grandchildren. Alan Warden and his wife Ally and Devan Warden, Dillon and Connor Flebbe, and McKenna and Madalynn Grounds. She has one great grandchild, Porter Warden.
Kate was cremated and her remains will be placed beside her husband in Albert G. Horton JR. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, VA.
A private gathering for friends and family will be held in June 2025.
