Katherine Kibler Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 6, 2025.
Katherine Allison Kibler (68) died on Friday, October 3 in Frankford, West Virginia. She was surrounded by the family she adored. Those who knew her remember her quick wit, loyalty, originality and exceptional kindness.

Kate grew up in Wilmington, Delaware and attended Tower Hill School and then Sanford School in Hockessin, DE, graduating in 1975. She began studies at the University of Delaware, took a break, started a family, and earned her BA in English in 1996.

Having visited Greenbrier County from a young age, she loved the hills of West Virginia. In 2009 her family moved to Frankford, and from 2012 until her illness, she led tours of the bunker at the Greenbrier Hotel, a job she deeply enjoyed both for its history and the people she worked with.

Her diverse interests included creative writing, playing guitar, needlepointing, writing poetry, and ocean-swimming. She was a Master Gardener, and also kept a variety of pets, including a 75-pound desert tortoise, Tortellini. Her greatest love, though, was her family.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 40 years, Ned Allen Kibler; two sons, Andrew Kibler (Kaitlyn) of Hartford, SD, and Peter Kibler (Hannah) of Gainesville, FL; her grandson Ryan Kibler-Wood of Irmo, SC. She is also survived by her mother Barbara Allison (age 96); a sister, Ginna Allison in Nevada City, CA, and a brother, Jay Allison of Woods Hole, MA. She was predeceased by her father, Peter Allison, and her dog, Amos, as well as many beloved pets over the years.
