Katherine S. MacKinnon, 43 of Trenton passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2025.

Born in Princeton and raised in Lawrenceville, NJ, Katie was a graduate of Lawrence High School, Class of 1999. As her friends and family know, Katie was the life of the party and was affectionately known as "Party Kake" to her nieces and nephews. Her dry wit, contagious laughter and carefree spirit could light up any room she entered. She was a loving daughter, sister, friend and most of all, she was a committed and adoring mother to her beloved son, Trey. He was truly her world, her greatest joy and her proudest accomplishment. She devoted herself completely to being his mother.

Katie found happiness and joy in music, movies and sharing time with her family and friends. Though her life ended far too soon, her spirit will live on through her son and in the hearts of all who loved her.

Katie is predeceased by her mother, Carolyn Ferst. She is survived by her father, Roderick P. MacKinnon and his wife, Patricia; her son, Trey Knight; her sisters, Deborah Giordano (Chris) and Kelley MacKinnon Goff (Vince); her long-term partner, William Knight, and her nieces and nephews, Ainsley, Evelyn, Kaija, Reece, Gavin and Felicity.

Cremation services were held privately under the direction of the Saul Colonial Home, 3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square, NJ.

To honor Katie's memory, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a GoFundMe established to support her beloved son, Trey. https://gofund.me/1e43c023
