Katherine was born on December 14, 1926 in Wallingford, Connecticut to Joseph Julius and Rose Evelyn (Bidder) Martin.
Katherine attended Lyman Hall School in Wallingford, Connecticut. She married O.D. Stowers in Elton, Maryland on January 23, 1945.
They moved to Pittsburg County in 1951. Katherine and O.D. raised their two sons, Henry Richard and James Joseph while settling into their long-standing home in Arpelar. They attended Stuart First Baptist Church. Katherine was a homemaker for many years and she also had worked at the U.S. Naval Ammunition Depot and at Seamprufe.
Katherine had a green thumb. Didn't matter what she planted it was sure to grow. She loved everything about farm life. Katherine had a great love for the Casinos. Wasn't really about the winning as much as that was what it just made her happy. This came second to grandkids and great grandkids. Her face lit up at every sight of them, even if they were only there for just a few minutes, it made her heart full. Of course, she always had the right snacks! She loved her cats, but she always had snacks for visiting family pets that came to her door and those dogs knew it, they loved her back.
She was preceded in death by her husband: O.D. Stowers on December 6, 2001; sons, James "Jimmy" Joseph Stowers; Henry Richard Stowers; parents: Joseph Julius and Rose Evelyn (Bidder) Martin; brothers: Edward Martin, Robert Martin, and Richard Martin; sisters: Mary Bennett, and Doris Bonviso; and great-granddaughter: Samantha Barlow.
Katherine is survived by daughters-in-law, Laura Stowers of Alderson, Gail Stowers of Arpelar; grandchildren: Bobby Stowers and his wife, Jammie of Arpelar, Tammie Lopez and husband, Devin of Alderson, Joshua Stowers and his wife, Karen of Arpelar, Kathy McCoy and husband, Chip of Arpelar; numerous great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
