Katherine S. Walstad

Katherine “Kathy” Sue Walstad, age 65, our loving, caring, compassionate, and dedicated, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend passed away suddenly on October 20, 2023.

Kathy was born on July 18, 1958, in Saginaw, MI, to parents Donald Sr. & Betty (Shall) Carlisle. She was raised alongside her seven siblings in Vassar. After graduating from Vassar High School, she earned her associate degree in business from Saginaw Valley State University. Kathy had worked for over 42 years with Bavarian Inn Restaurant in Frankenmuth and was the human resources manager there. Kathy enjoyed gardening, cooking, and camping at Pines Cabin on the Rifle River. She was passionate about making and keeping family traditions and decorating her home for the holidays. She will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her children: April (Mark) Hecht, Kaity Walstad, Mandi (Levi Zapata) Walstad; grandchildren, Luke, and Kurtis; siblings: Don Jr. (Patricia) Carlisle, Christine Carlisle, James Carlisle; as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, extended family, and friends.

Kathy is preceded in death by her parents; soulmate, Tom Walstad; siblings: Patricia Ferris, Gary Carlisle, Thomas Carlisle, and Brian Carlisle; and mother-in-law, Gloria Walstad.

A celebration of Kathy's life will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at Frankenmuth Bible Church; visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

Donations may be directed to the Barb Smith Suicide Resource & Response Network, an organization in which Kathy was so actively involved and passionate about. She helped to save countless lives every day that she was living hers.
