June transitioned from this life to her divine reward on March 5, 2025 at the age of 98.
Her greatest joys in life were family, faith, and golf.
June was a devoted mother and grandmother pouring her heart into support and guidance through every phase of life. Her love was evident in word and action: sewing home-made matching Easter outfits, nodding off during Shock Theatre following graveyard shift, cooking for anyone playing billiards in the basement, and countless trips to band practice, music lessons, ball games, and golf lessons.
Her impact on the lives of those in her church was immeasurable. "Mama June" was a woman of strong belief and faith in God touching lives with warmth and unwavering devotion. As a member of New Salem Baptist Church, she established children's church and King's Teens ministries, served as wedding director, catered receptions, sang in choir and with The Golden Girls trio, organized yard rolling parties, and fulfilled many other acts of service over the years.
June's hobbies included singing in the Sweet Adelines, working in her yard, and golf. She excelled in the Senior Olympic games and served as a coach for First Tees Chattanooga. In her recovery from hip replacement at the age of 97, she enjoyed physical rehab on the putting green at Life Care Hixson. As a child of the Great Depression living in Wauhatchie and having lost her father at a young age, she understood anxiety over not having enough food or resources. Her mindset valued hard work, thriftiness, and self-sufficiency. She was proud to be one of the first women hired at DuPont and retired as a chemical analyst in the lab.
June was preceded in death by her father Herschel and mother Anna Mae, her brothers Willard and Wiley, and her husband Stephen "Birchie" Allison. She is survived by daughters Stephenia Jones and Kathy Allison, son Dennis and wife Shirley Allison, grandchildren Brooke, Colton, and Whitney, and her beloved cats. June's last years were marked by the same strength and resilience she exhibited throughout her life. She was well supported by her church family, and she loved her compassionate physician, Dr. Jack McCallie. June will be remembered as a shepherd to many and an inspiration to those who were privileged to know her. May her memory bring peace and comfort to those who loved her and celebrate the life she lived.
Family will receive visitors at New Salem Baptist Church, 9806 Dallas Hollow Road on Saturday, March 8, at 11am, an hour prior to the noon service. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to New Salem Baptist Church www.newsalembzptist.net/give/ or First Tees Chattanooga Hamilton County - First Tee - Tennessee.
