Katheryn Payne Obituary Katheryn Louise Payne of Packerton, Kosciusko County, Indiana, took the hand of the Lord and went home at 7:40 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at the age of 83. She was surrounded by her loving family when she crossed into Heaven!
She was born on May 19, 1941, in Wayne County, West Virginia to Susie (Marcum) Stroud and Shorty Stroud. On July 11, 1980, she married Douglas J. Payne, and they were blessed with 43 years of marriage together before Doug passed away on March 18, 2024. Together they shared the ups and downs of life, and through everything they always had their faith. When they moved to Kosciusko County, Indiana in 1972, they enjoyed worshiping together with their church family at Water of Life Church in Silver Lake, Indiana.
Katheryn was a hard worker her entire life, always taking care of whatever needed to be done. She cut timber and operated a sawmill at her family's sawmill business in West Virginia until the age of 18. She worked for a sewing company, Quad Manufacturing Company, just outside of Kenova, West Virginia for many years. Katheryn proudly remembered being tasked with making four pairs of golfing pants for President John F. Kennedy. She enjoyed being involved in politicking and even worked the presidential election campaign in West Virginia. Katheryn retired after working for 30 years in North Manchester, Indiana at Peabody Manufacturing.
She spoke her mind and wasn't shy about it at all. Throughout her life she always loved to read, she had a tall stack of books and she had the habit of recording the information that she learned. Most of all, she simply loved to sit quietly and read her Bible, taking notes and without fail was inspired by the Word and learned something new at each reading. Katheryn dearly loved her family, she was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend to many. She would most want to be remembered for her faith in her Savior, Jesus Christ.
She will be lovingly remembered by her son, Cebern W. (Dana) Moore (Stanford, KY); daughter, Frankie Y. (Foy) Miller (Huntington, IN); two grandchildren, Richard (Ashley) Frasure (South Whitley, IN); Katheryn Frasure (Claypool, IN); one great-grandchild, Eric Williams (Claypool, IN). Also surviving are two brothers, Van Stroud and James (Patty) Stroud (both WV); and three sisters, June (Raybon) Williams (Dunlow, WV); Martha (Thomas) Madison (Warsaw, IN); Mabel Ruth Miller (Corbin, KY). She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Douglas J. Payne, two sisters, Evie Sue Hughes in 1989, JoAnne Hughes in 2010, three brothers, Willis Stroud in 1990, Jesse Lee Stroud in 2013 and Harmon Stroud in 2014.
Katheryn's life will be celebrated with a service at 12:00 noon on Friday, March 21, 2025, at Water Of Life Church, 401 E. Main Street, Silver Lake, Indiana and officiated by Pastor JR Arnett, Pastor Paul Copeland, Pastor Rick Bradley and Pastor Rocky Addair. She will be laid to rest beside her late husband at Hillcrest Cemetery, Pierceton, Indiana. Friends and family may visit prior to the service from 10:00 – 12:00 noon. Arrangements were entrusted to Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, Indiana.
