K
athy Talbot was born on October 24, 1955, in Rapid City, SD. With her father in the Air Force, she traveled often in her youth, from Fort Hood, Texas to Guam to Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, Colorado. She and her family eventually settled in Englewood, where she graduated from Englewood High School in 1974.
Shortly after, she moved to Fort Walton Beach, FL, and was working as a waitress when a young man caught her attention and quickly her heart. Lindsey Brown was playing bass in a band in the club, and their romance that spanned more than four decades took off. They began to build their lives together in Atlanta and Spartanburg, SC, before her mother's illness drew her back to Colorado. They got married before making the trip on April 15, 1982, stopping in Kentucky so that all of Lindsey's (very large!) family could meet the woman who had stolen his heart.
Shortly after moving to Edgewater, Kathy gave birth to a beautiful daughter – Calista Jean Brown – on November 23, 1983, and then shortly afterwards, to a handsome son – Christopher James Brown on April 16, 1987. While she will be the first to admit that she didn't know how she would like being a mom, she took to it immediately, and was extremely proud of the woman and man that Callie and Chris had become. She loved her children fiercely.
While she dabbled in many jobs, from EMS work to zoo keeping, and specialty meat clerk to Red Lobster, the family moved several times around the Denver area, staying with or near Kathy's mom, Albina. Several years after Albina passed away, Lindsey and Kathy decided to move to Moorehead, KY, briefly staying with family and then buying a home close to Jeff and Ronetta Brown. The four were inseparable. While in Kentucky, Kathy began to work for AlphaNet, a non-profit designed to help individuals with Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency, a disease that Kathy had been diagnosed with in the 1990s. She was able to show empathy and care to the countless individuals she helped, often calling on weekends and holidays to make sure they were well taken care of.
In June of 2016, Kathy and Lindsey decided to return to Colorado, living briefly in Golden, and then in Commerce City and Lochbuie. Kathy built upon her love of antiquing and selling jewelry while living in Colorado; a passion she built 20 years before. She moved close to her daughter Callie, her husband Joshua, and her first grandson, Ari, who lovingly called her "Grammy" and loved her so much. Chris also had a beautiful Boy, Ralphie, with his wife Helena, and she got to visit with him virtually. For as much as she loved being a mom, she was made to be a grandmother.
Outside of spending time with family, Kathy had many interests. She loved the Beatles and the Eagles and could be found on a Sunday night with Lindsey listening to live shows. She loved to spend time with her friend Heather antiquing in Golden and the Brass Armadillo. Kathy was always down for a scenic drive, getting lost on the backroads, or could often be found relaxing on the couch with a fantasy novel. She and Lindsey would spend hours fishing and enjoying the outdoors.
On Thursday, February 16, 2023, Kathy lost her battle with the disease she bravely battled for over 30 years. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her family.
The world was a much better place with her in it and will be lesser without her. Those that knew Kathy knew that she was kind beyond measure, sweet, caring, loving, faithful and loyal, and that she loved her family and friends more than words can say. She leaves behind a legacy of two awesome children, two grandchildren, and a vast web of people whose lives she touched in innumerable ways, and her husband, who adored her once, twice, three times. She will forever be remembered.
