Kathleen “Mike” Doon, 88, of Rutland, died Monday, January 5, 2026, at her home, with her family at her side. She was born on November 19, 1937, in Peabody, MA, daughter of Philip F. and Kathleen R. (Fitzgerald) Conway.
Mike attended the College of St. Elizabeth and was a graduate of Salem State University. She began her career in banking in Peabody, MA, and later worked for the American Mutual Insurance Company, where she met her husband Thomas M. Doon. She moved to Rutland to join him after they married in 1969. She resumed work in banking in 1980, retiring in 1996 as Vice President and Director of Marketing at Marble Bank. She was a gifted athlete who enjoyed skiing, tennis, and especially golf, and was a longtime member of Rutland Country Club. Following her retirement, she was also a dedicated volunteer at the Rutland Regional Medical Center. For the past two decades, one of her greatest joys was spending time with her two grandsons, to whom she was devoted. To her family and many dear friends, she was a model of living life with enthusiasm, and brought a sense of fun to any gathering.
Mike is survived by a daughter, Ellen Doon, son-in-law Adam Marchand, and two grandsons, Jack and Henry Marchand, all of New Haven, CT; two sisters, Patricia (Conway) Motto of Lake Oswego, OR and Mary Elizabeth Conway of Peabody, MA; one brother, Francis L. Conway of Peabody, MA; six nieces and nephews and eleven grand- nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas M. Doon.
A mass will be celebrated in the spring, followed by burial in Evergreen Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to the Visiting Nurses Association and Hospice of the Southwest Region (www.vermontvisitingnurses.org).
