Kathleen Furlani

Kathleen M. (Kessler) Furlani, 76, of Broad Brook, Connecticut peacefully passed away on March 16, 2025 in Uxbridge, MA. Kathy is survived by her husband, John Furlani, and her mother, Helen Kessler (96), of Broad Brook, CT; her sisters, Kristine (David) Traska, of Broad Brook, CT, and Kerry Ann Aresco (Kevin Morse) of Enfield, CT; her children Beth (Michael) Quinn of Uxbridge, MA and Jay (Sheila) Kolodzinski of Woodstock, GA, and her grandchildren Meg Wingfield, Taylor Quinn, and Anna, Noah, Grace, Gabriel, Xavier, Jude and Faith Kolodzinski. Kathy also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Kathy was predeceased by her granddaughter, Olivia Kolodzinski; her brother-in-law, Michael Aresco; and her father, Kenneth Kessler. Kathy was a 1967 graduate of East Windsor High School, East Windsor, CT. After receiving her associate's degree from Manchester Community College, she married Walt Kolodzinski of Florence, MA in 1970. She lived in Florence for many years, raising a family and was employed at Cooley Dickinson Hospital. In 1990, she was remarried to John Furlani and they lived in Chesterfield, MA until 2000, when they returned to Broad Brook, near beloved family and friends. Kathy's younger days were marked by her love of square dancing, polka dances and music. In her late 30's, Kathy found her passion for running. She particularly loved road and trail races and was "addicted to running." She completed dozens of marathons and started doing ultra trail races with her running partner, Mary Lou. In her 60's, Kathy began snowshoe racing, a new obsession that earned her national championships. In 2020, Kathy was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She had a remarkable journey and was blessed to remain active and healthy for most of those 4 years; continuing to run, walk, snowshoe, travel, read, watch movies, play scrabble with her husband, and enjoy her other passion, talking on the phone. Calling hours will be on Tuesday, March 25th from 4-7 pm at Bassinger & Dowd Funeral Home, 37 Gardner St., East Windsor, CT.
