SCHENECTADY – Armando Gordon Furlani, 78, a man of integrity, compassion, and deep devotion to his family and community, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 1, 2025, after a brief illness.
Born in Schenectady on September 9, 1946, he was the beloved son of the late Valentino and Marilyn (Hargraves) Furlani. Gordon was a proud 1964 graduate of Niskayuna High School and went on to attend the Junior College of Albany before earning his bachelor's degree from Eastern Michigan University.
Gordon's professional career in banking and real estate took him to several cities, including Buffalo, NY, and Malden, MA, before he returned home to Schenectady. He served his Country in the NY National Guard. Wherever he lived, Gordon was a committed advocate for urban revitalization and economic development, actively participating in local Chambers of Commerce in Buffalo, Malden, and Schenectady.
Locally, he held roles in the commercial loan department at Trustco Bank and in real estate with Blake Realty, ReMax, and ultimately CBRE, where he served as an Associate Broker.
Deeply proud of his Italian heritage, Gordon was the secretary of the IDAKA Forum, supporting Italian immigrants and trades people in the city. He also served as Chairman of the Schenectady Municipal Golf Course Advisory Committee, where he worked tirelessly to improve the course and help it generate revenue for the city he so dearly loved.
A man of faith, Gordon was a devoted communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church, actively involved in many parish functions including acting as Project Manager for the church's Facade Restoration Project. He leaves behind a legacy of service, pride in his roots, and a steadfast belief in the power of community.
Gordon is survived by his loving children, Jason Furlani and his wife, Emily and Jessica Pugh and her husband Nick; grandchildren, Eva and Enzo Furlani, Maya, Emma and Sophie McCloskey, Meredith and Jillian Pugh; a sister, Valentina "Tina" Krauss and her husband Robert along with their children, Timothy, Peter, and Kasey. Gordon was predeceased by his sister Paula Boles and her husband Brian, who are survived by their children, Amber, Andy and Aubrey.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 10th at 2:15 pm, at St. John the Evangelist Church, 806 Union Street. Interment will follow in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery on Monday, May 12th.
Calling hours to which relatives and friends are invited to attend will be held on May 10th from 12:30pm to 2:15 pm at St. John the Evangelist Church.
Memorial contributions may be made in Gordon's memory to the Electric City Community Grocery, PO Box 1416, Schenectady, NY 12305 and kindly place Gordon's name in the memo line.
