Kathleen “Kathy” Rose Redfield was born January 20, 1951, in Glendive, Montana to Thomas and Vivian (Fercho) Murphy. She attended St. Paul Lutheran Church in Beach, North Dakota and graduated from Beach High School in 1969. After high school, she continued her education in Accounting at Interstate Business College in Fargo, North Dakota, and graduated in 1971.
Kathy started her career at Hornbacher’s in Moorhead as a bookkeeper. She continued her career working at American Crystal Sugar, Olaf Anderson Construction, Moorhead Youth Hockey, and the City of Fargo, until she retired in 2016.
Kathy was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Moorhead, the Moorhead Spud Boosters, and Growing Together Community Gardens.
She was grateful for the many friendships she built through work, community activities, and her children’s sports, and she always looked forward to spending time together and reminiscing. Over the years, Kathy was especially thankful for her wonderful neighbors, who were always checking in and lending a helping hand.
Kathy enjoyed spending her time doing the things she loved most and sharing them with the people closest to her. She could often be found working in her garden or playing cards—especially cribbage. She loved trips to the casino and traveling adventures with her family and friends. Kathy cherished time at Height of Land Lake and Little Cormorant Lake with her family and never missed a chance to attend concerts, always making the most of every moment.
In 1972, Kathy married Peder Redfield in Moorhead and together they had four children. She loved attending her children’s sporting events. Peder and Kathy never missed an opportunity to support their children in every activity. Her highlight was watching her children grow into adults; it was here that they blessed her with her favorite title – Grandma. She loved her grandchildren with all her heart and enjoyed all of their unique personalities.
She cherished when her family was together, and her house was full because there was never a dull moment. The time was always filled with laughs, memories, and plenty of food, especially when it included Kathy’s specialty: Oofda Tacos.
Kathy passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 16, 2025, surrounded by family at Sanford Hospice House in Fargo at 74 years of age.
She is survived by her four children, Jason (Jerene) Redfield of West Fargo, North Dakota; Jennifer Baukol of Grand Forks, North Dakota; Jessica (Lane) Huseby of Fargo, North Dakota; and Justin (Laura) Redfield of Gilberts, Illinois; one sister, Patty Murphy of Carson, California; and one brother, Tom Murphy of Bowman, North Dakota; eleven grandchildren, Jacob, Mallorie, Emma, Karisa, MaKena, Gunnar, Dylan, Bergan, Bennett, Molly, and Kayla; and seven nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Ingvald Redfield; father, Thomas Murphy; husband, Peder Redfield; mother, Vivian Murphy; and mother-in-law, Ivanelle (Redepenning) Redfield.
