Kathleen McCarthy Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Craig Funeral Home on Jan. 9, 2026.
Kathleen Mary "Kerry" McCarthy
Born on October 27, 1952, Kerry McCarthy spent her formative years split between St.Augustine, FL, Glen Ellyn, IL, and Cape Cod, MA. She was a graduate of Cathedral Parish School and St Joseph Academy. Kerry was a noted author as well as a consultant on many books and articles. She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Marylou (nee Connolly) McCarthy, her sister, Cheryl (Davis Knapp), and brother, Kevin. She held special bonds with two cousins who also predeceased her- her namesake Kathleen "Kick" Kennedy and President John F. Kennedy.
Kerry left this world much as she entered it: happy, smiling, and ready to make her opinion known. Those that had any conversation with her will remember her famous "Oh, Dahlin'"; before setting the record straight. Her anger was quick but short lived, while her admiration was lifelong and constant.
Kerry was known for her love of all things political but, in particular, the campaign trail, launching and assisting many local, state and national candidates on their quest for public office. She ran her consulting agency in the way not witnessed today. It was personal: she dealt face to face. She was critical but took rough edges and made them smooth. The movie she related to the most for any elective office was "The Candidate". She made sure anyone running was ready to answer that movie's key question: what are you going to do after you win? She always acknowledged the history of our communities, the men and women who worked day in and out, and the future generations our children hold and the education that prepares them for it.
A memorial service will be held Monday, January 12, 6 PM, at Craig Funeral Home in St. Augustine. Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorial donations may be made to United Way St. Johns Putnam Counties, PO Box 1007, St. Augustine, Florida 32085.
