Kathleen Marie Melwing

Melwing, Kathleen Marie, of Flushing, age 65, passed away on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at her home.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 at Rossell Funeral Home, Father Brian Lenz will officiate. Burial will follow at Flushing Cemetery. Family and friends will gather from 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday until the time of service.
Kathy was born in Flint, Michigan on May 14, 1960, the daughter of John Michael Ferry and Madonna (Jerome) Aubrey. She dedicated 40 years of her life to Hurley Hospital. She began her journey there as a candy striper and, through hard work, compassion, and the commitment to helping others, retired from administration after serving in a variety of roles. She had a gift for remembering people and making everyone feel like they mattered. She made friends everywhere she went and kept them for life. Her heart of gold and her ability to light up a room made her a force to be reckoned with. The light of Kathy's life was her beloved son, Alex. What they both had in common was the way their love positively affected others. Kathy also had a deep love for birds and animals, and she could often be found shopping, especially when it came to finding something special for her great-nephew. Her happiest moments were spent up north in Michigan, enjoying time at the family cabin on Bass Lake or relaxing by Lobdell Lake, soaking up the sun and working on her tan. Kathy proudly was one of the original founders and promoter of Flushing's Concerts in the Park. She was a beloved member of the community and a shining presence to all who knew her.
Kathy is survived by her parents, Madonna (Jerome) Aubrey and John Ferry; brother, Michael Ferry, sister, Jacqueline Hougen; nieces, Autumn and Katie; and great-nephew, Kristian. She was preceded in death by her son, Alex Melwing.
In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make donations in Kathy's memory to the Humane Society of Genesee County.
