Selvaggio – Kathleen "Kathy" Selvaggio, age 80, of Starke, Florida passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 27, 2022, at Lake Butler Hospital with her loving family by her side. She was born in Newark, New Jersey on February 25, 1942, to the late John G. Krause and Amelia Mealling Krause. Kathy was raised in New Jersey and graduated from Union High School in 1960. Following high school, Kathy worked for a season at the Public Service Electric and Gas in New Jersey. In 1965, she met the love of her life, Victor Joseph Selvaggio and they were happily married on May 6, 1967. In 1971, Victor and Kathy relocated to Jacksonville and built a sweet life together. Kathy had such a gift with children. She was the Daycare Director for Holy Cross Preschool and Childcare Center in Jacksonville for many years. Kathy was instrumental in teaching and leading so many little ones and loved watching them learn and grow from the seeds she had once planted in their lives. When not working, Kathy was tending to her own family and three children who she loved dearly. Kathy was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to so many. She had a servant's heart and was always looking for ways to help others. Kathy volunteered for years in various places. She was the PTA President, a Campfire Girls Bluebird Troop Leader, T-ball Coach, and she was an emergency medical first responder and Firefighter at the New River Fire Department, Station 3. Victor and Kathy made Starke their forever home in December of 2005 and became members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Starke. Kathy was also a gifted artist. She loved making ceramics and was even honored with the Peggy Award, which is Popular Ceramic's highest award. Kathy found much pleasure in being outside tending to her flower gardens and loved her weekly roses from Vic. Most of all, Kathy enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, creating treasured memories and making the most out of the time she was given. Kathy was a blessing to those around her, left an impact in their lives, and will leave behind a legacy to her family. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents; her twin brother, John "Johnny" Krause; and sister, Amy Raczynski.
Kathy is survived by her loving husband of almost 55 years, Victor "Vic" Selvaggio of Starke, FL; children, Linda (Mark) Miller of Starke, FL, Betty (David) Tehrani of Orlando, FL, and Joseph (Heather) Selvaggio of Fleming Island, FL; sisters, Helen Rescigno and Susan Carr both of New Jersey; grandchildren, Justin Selvaggio, Savannah Trantham, Madison Selvaggio, Lexi Tehrani, Megan Selvaggio, Kate Tehrani, Shaynah Miller, and Zane Miller; many close cousins who Kathleen loved as siblings, along with numerous extended family and friends.
A Celebration of Kathy's Life will be held on Monday, March 7, 2022, at 2:00 pm at Archie Tanner Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Keystone Heights Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 1:00 – 2:00 pm at the funeral home.
