Obituary published on Legacy.com by Gray-Parker Funeral Home on May 5, 2025.
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs. Kathleen I. (Henn) Space, a lifelong resident of Montague, NJ. Kathy passed away on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York, NY. She was 70 years old. Kathy was a loving wife, step-mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend whose presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She was born on May 17, 1954, in
Port Jervis, NY to the late Nicholas F. Henn and the late Lottie M. Jaros Henn. She dedicated 44 years of her life working as a Lab Technician at Kolmar Labs in
Port Jervis, NY, where she formed many lifelong friendships. Upon her retirement, Kathy embraced her love for animals by rescuing her beloved dog, Scarlet, from Alabama. She trained Scarlet as a therapy dog, and together they brought comfort and joy to residents in senior care homes. Deeply rooted in her community, Kathy was an active member of St. James Church, the Montague Seniors, and the Sussex County Beekeepers Association. She will be remembered for her warmth, her wit, and the unique ways she made a difference in the lives around her. Kathy was loved by many...more than she would ever know. She was an Aunt that was always there when you needed her like when you ran away from your parents! She had a connection with the Easter Beagle, who would make it to her house every Easter with treats for her nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. From trips to the mall and the shore and High Point State Park beach to cookies on the porch for good report cards in these, and countless other ways, she created a family legacy that will be talked about for generations to come. She will forever be remembered as the coolest Aunt in Hennsville! She was known by friends and family for her birthday cakes, Christmas cookies, pierogi and the best subs and potato salad in town. She was called to the Lord sooner than she would've wanted, though now surrounded by family who've gone before her and "possibly" Jim Morrison. Kathy is survived by her loving husband, Harry I. Space, II, her precious dog, Scarlet, her step-children Melanie (and Angie), Harry Space, III, and Kate (and Randy) Maddock and ex daughter-in-law, Jill. She also leaves behind 6 adoring grandchildren, Rhys, Wes, London, Finn, Ben, and Wendy. Her legacy will live on through her 13 nieces and nephews Sharon, Jay, Buddy, Carol, Artie, Dawn, Bill, Michelle, Rich, Jenn, Sean, Kellee, Mark; 29 grand-nieces and nephews and 1 great-great grand-niece. She leaves behind her sisters, Lottie Durland and Patricia Long, and brothers Arthur (and Maria) Henn and William (and Joan) Henn and sister-in-law Patti Henn, as well as her brother-in-law Rusty (and Doreen) Space. She was predeceased by her brother Mike. Finally, she is lovingly remembered by her dearest, lifelong friend and partner- in- crime, Renee Little. Family and friends are invited to gather and celebrate Kathy's life on what would have been her 71st birthday, Saturday, May 17, 2025, from 11:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Gray-Parker Funeral Home, 100 E. Main St.,
Port Jervis, NY. A memorial service will follow at 1:00 PM, officiated by Rev. Anthony Giacona. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to their favorite animal shelter in Kathy's memory. Funeral arrangements are by the GRAY-PARKER FUNERAL HOME, 100 E.
