Kathleen Ida Splitter was born June 22, 1948, to Carl and Francesca (Hake) Splitter of Milton, WI. She grew up on the family farm in Milton Township. Kathy attended Rock River Grade School and learned from the best teacher ever, Miss Mildred Monaghan. From that point on, she knew she wanted to be a teacher. Kathy graduated from Milton Union High School in 1966 and attended the University of Wisconsin Platteville. In 1970, she graduated from the University of Wisconsin Whitewater with a bachelor's degree in physical education. In 1971, Kathy landed her dream job - teaching physical education at Marshall Junior High School in Janesville, WI. At Marshall, she was mentored by another amazing teacher, Max Nobinsky. Kathy spent 33 years teaching at Marshall and loved it as much the last day as she did the first day. While at Marshall, she coached swimming, volleyball, softball, and track and field. She was also the intramural director. Kathy married her high school sweetheart, Joseph Thompson, on May 4, 1968, after he returned from his tour in Vietnam. Together, they had two wonderful daughters, Jessica Dawn and Jennifer Elizabeth. They were the center of her life. Kathy had a wonderful life enjoying reading, gardening, furniture refinishing, watching the Packers and running. In 2016, Joe and Kathy were able to buy most of her family farm, which brought them great joy. She also was a longtime dedicated member and volunteer at Hope Lutheran Church in Milton, WI. With every pursuit, Kathy served selflessly and with integrity. Always one for entertaining, Kathy figured out how to be part of a singing group when she couldn't sing worth a hoot. Thanks, Momettes and Starlettes. Kathy is survived by Joseph Thompson, her husband of 56 years; her daughter Jessica (Jerry) Kassel; and her grandchildren, Matthew Kassel and Sophia Kassel. She is also survived by her sister, Carla (Robert) Clift, sisters-in-law Joanne Brown, Julie Meyer and Kathy Thompson, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Kathy was preceded in death by her daughter Jennifer; her parents; her brother, Robert Brown; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mary and Leonard Thompson; her brothers-in-law Pete Meyer, Jack Thompson and Jerry Thompson; and her sisters-in-law Karen Thompson, Shirley Thompson and Kathleen Johnson. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday April 28, 2025 at Hope Lutheran Church, Milton. Visitation time will be from 9:00 am until time of services at the church.
