Our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister passed away, Saturday, December 9, 2023, at Carriage House Nursing and Rehab, age 70. Kathy was born October 24, 1953, in Bay City to the late James R. and Ruth C. (Wager) Whalen. She graduated from T.L. Handy High School, class of 1971. Kathy met and fell in love with Joseph P. Winchell, they were married on October 13, 1978, and Jospeh predeceased her on January 7, 2016. Joseph and Kathy owned and operated Winchell's Auto for many years, where Kathy did the day-to-day bookkeeping and administrative details. Kathy enjoyed doing arts and crafts, relaxing on her porch, spending time outdoors sitting by a bonfire and visiting her family in Harrisville on the lake.
Surviving are two sons, Trevor (Aud D.H.) Winchell and Cory Winchell, grandchildren: Zac Wilkerson, Breelyn Ward, Libby, Indee and Ajae Winchell, a few great grandchildren, one brother James (Yvonne) Whalen, mother-in-law Barb J. Winchell, two sisters-in-law: Merry (Randy) Stefaniak, Carole (Rick) Wachowski, and three brothers-in-law: William (Lee) Winchell, Don (Kim) Winchell and Dave Winchell. Kathy was predeceased by her parents James and Ruth, son Jason J. Winchell, and her father-in-law William H. Winchell, Sr.
Cremation will take place; no visitation or services will be held at Squires Funeral Home. A private family gathering will be held later in 2024. www.squiresfuneralhome.com
