Kathleen S. Wright of Venice, FL and Osterville, MA died peacefully at her home in Venice, FL on May 8, 2025, following a short illness.
Kay was a native of the greater Boston area, having lived in West Roxbury, Jamaica Plain, Andover, Marina Bay Quincy and Cape Cod. Early in her career Kay worked as an RN in several Boston area hospitals.
After earning her Masters in Nursing and an MBA from Boston University and Anna Maria College she became CEO of the Dedham MA Visiting Nurses Association, which under her direction grew to be the second largest VNA in the nation. She also conceived and facilitated the openig of the Stanley Tippet Hospice Home of Needham, MA while in tenure at the Dedham VNA.
An avid sailor, Kay upon her FIRST retirement took her beloved sloop "Pickn' Daisies" to Venice, FL for some year-round sailing. At that point, she took over interim management of the Bon Secours Home Health agency, a division of Venice Hospital.
Kay loved interacting with her grandchildren and spent many hours playing cards or Scrabble or her favorite, Ottoman with them. She also took them on cultural excursions to NYC, Washington, DC, Disney World where she exposed them to art, music and helped instill in them a desire for achievement. Every year at Christmas time Kay could be seen with a gaggle of grandkids at the Boston Pops Christmas concert. She also, as great granddaughter Kyle put it "taught us to eat our French fries with a fork".
Following her SECOND retirement Kay became a partner in Fazzi Associates, a consulting firm based in Northampton, MA. She travelled the country assisting Home Health Care agencies and earning a national reputation as a leading expert in the field.
Kay is survived by her husband Edward Machado and her five (5) children, Susan Weber (WIlliam) of Northport, FL, Karen Bennett of St. Augustine, FL, Terry Calapa of Venice, FL, Philip Wright (Lisa) of Groveland, MA and Gretchen Campbell (Donald) of Plymouth, MA, also thirteen (13) grandchildren and twenty-one (21) great grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at 1:00pm in the Eagle Point Club Clubhouse and for her New England friends on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Our Lady of Assumption Parish Center in Osterville, MA at 1:00pm.
In lieu of flowers donations in her honor can be made to Tidewell Hospice or Habitat for Humanity.
