William A Zier, born September 10, 1948 in Sault St. Marie, Michigan to Gustav and Margaret Zier. Bill passed peacefully on July 2, 2025 in Venice, Florida.
Bill lived at Pt Iroquois Lighthouse for his first five years where his father served as the Coast Guard Light Keeper. Bill graduated from Alpena High School and then married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Goodall.
Bill served in the US Army with a tour of duty in Vietnam. After, he used the G.I. Bill to receive a degree in Concrete Technology. Bill spent most of his working career in the construction field and he founded Bill's Carpentry Inc. Being a private pilot also offered him the opportunity to fly for Englewood Medical Lab and Venice Air Service.
Those that know Bill, know that he had a passion for helping and for fixing things. He enjoyed volunteering his services in maintenance for Venice Nokomis Preschool for over 40 years. He also helped his family and friends with many home projects,
In 1973, Bill, Barb, and their young son, Greg, moved to live in Florida where they could enjoy the year-round opportunity to be outdoors. Bill loved hiking in the Georgia mountains, walking to waterfalls, and having bonfires with family and friends. He watched the sunrise and sunset almost everyday and never lost his wonder of its beauty.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, brother Richard, and sister Laurie Ann.
Bill is survived by his wife of 57 years, Barbara, son Gregory (Jeannie), grandson Kyle (Domenique), granddaughter Hailey Kendall (Kyle), sister Paula Glennie (MI), brothers John (Sue) (CA), Dave (Colleen) (Key West), James (Nancy) (NC), as well as many nieces and nephews and close friends.

Fred and Sally Weghorst

July 7, 2025

Barb, you have our deepest sympathy and prayers because of your loss. You both were so kind to us during Sally´s illness in 2019. I prayed for Bill nearly every day after speaking with the two of you in your driveway this past March. I think. God must have needed a handyman for some important chores. Again, God Bless! We hope to see you in November. Fred and Sally Weghorst 305 Fiesole
