In Loving Memory
Kathryn "Kay" Berdon, age 91, passed away peacefully on July 31st at Spring Creek Living in Plano, Texas. Surrounded by the love of family and friends during her time there, Kay remained in good spirits and continued to find joy in her days.
Born Kathryn Joline Lynch on August 12th, 1934, in Vicksburg, Mississippi, Kay was the beloved only child of Edward James Lynch and Eunice Constance McNeal of Saint Joseph, Louisiana.
She was raised in the small rural town of Saint Joseph in Northern Louisiana, where she spent her childhood enjoying the outdoors and the lakes with friends. Kay was bright, well-liked, and active in school and local community events.
In the 1950s, Kay attended Louisiana State University, where she earned her degree in nutrition. She valued her education deeply and was proud of her professional achievements in the field. It was at LSU in Baton Rouge that she met the love of her life, Edward Louis Berdon Jr. The two were married on February 7, 1959, and together built a beautiful family-the true joy and purpose of their lives.
Kay is lovingly remembered by her children and grandchildren:
• Son Eddie and wife Terri, with grandsons Eddie and Andrew
• Son Greg (who preceded her in death)
• Son Lee and wife Dana, with grandchildren Ashten and Brennan
• Daughter Melanie, with grandson Frank
Her family was the light of her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
In 1969, Kay and Louis embarked on a bold new adventure, moving with their three young boys to Alaska. While Louis often traveled to the Arctic for work, Kay embraced the challenges of raising a family in the extreme climate-mastering the art of coats, boots, and snow-filled school days, all far from her Louisiana roots. It was during this time in Alaska that their daughter Melanie was born, adding even more joy to their growing family.
Kay loved to travel. Family vacations often took them from Alaska to Hawaii or back to Louisiana during the summers. She was also a talented and passionate singer, performing as a lead vocalist with the Sweet Adelines. She traveled and competed with her quartet, frequently singing for children during holiday events. Her laughter and jokes could always be heard at any gathering-she had a vibrant spirit that lit up every room.
A gifted cook, Kay loved experimenting with new recipes and often shared her love of food and faith with friends during what she fondly called "R&R"-Recipes and Religion.
A devout Catholic, Kay was deeply spiritual and brought her faith into every aspect of her life. Her kindness, compassion, and loving nature touched everyone who knew her.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, September 25th at 11:00 AM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, located at 2700 W Spring Creek Parkway, Plano, TX. All family and friends are invited to join in honoring her memory. A reception will follow the service.
Kay's legacy of love, laughter, and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
