On the morning of June 13, 2025, Kathryn Lee Brian-beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, teacher, and friend-peacefully returned to her heavenly home. She quietly passed away in Lehi, Utah, her hands held by her children. Kathy was born in Castro Valley, California, on July 27, 1945, to Bates and Marian Brian. Bright in mind and spirit from the start, she graduated early from Castro Valley High and earned a Bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University. She lived a life full of learning, friendship, and love. Kathy is survived by her six children-Steven, Kristine (Brian) Hull, Michael (Valarie), Robert, Deborah (Travis) Stevens, and Thomas-and her brother, Nate Brian. She is also the proud grandmother of Katie (Benjamin), Aaron, Jackson, Kiley, Ashley, and Stockton. She is joyfully reunited with her parents and her brother, Tim. Her children will tell you she was everything from admirable and amazing to "X-ceptional" and zealous. They adored her, and she adored them right back- "to infinity and beyond and back." Kathy taught school for over 30 years and was known by many names-Ms. Brian, Mrs. Andrus, "DRUS", "The Enforcer", and Mrs. Caldwell-but her students always knew her as the teacher who believed in them. Whether leading musicals at Oakridge Elementary, directing sing-alongs with a tambourine, or guiding campers at Mill Hollow, Kathy taught with heart, humor, and high expectations. She was a passionate cook, a dedicated crafter, and a true flower enthusiast-never quite able to pick a favorite. Her garden was a reflection of her character: vibrant, welcoming, and beautiful. Kathy loved theater, travel, and meaningful conversations with her dear friend Linda. She flew to Oberammergau, Germany to see The Passion, and often frequented The Hale and Sundance theaters with her children or friends in tow. A lifelong and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kathy served in many callings, but none she loved more than choir director. Through music, she bore her testimony of Jesus Christ, expressing her faith with warmth, joy, and grace. Those who knew Kathy knew they were loved-deeply, fiercely, and unforgettably. Her love was her legacy, and her influence will echo through generations. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 28, 2025, at 10:00 AM at the LDS chapel at 750 W 4050 N, Lehi, UT, with a viewing at 9:00 AM. Interment will follow at the Lehi Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Perpetual Education Fund or The Hale Theater-two places where her love of learning and light can continue for others.
