Kathryn Maxey Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mercer-Adams Funeral Service on Dec. 8, 2022.
Kathryn Ann "Kathy" Maxey, 81, died December 6, 2022, in Bethany, Oklahoma. She was born on August 31, 1941, in Okemah, Oklahoma, the daughter of Thomas and Nancy Rains. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She graduated in 1992 with a bachelor's degree from Southern Nazarene University and retired from Lucent as a supervisor in 2001.
Kathy was an active member of Bethany First Church of the Nazarene, as she was a devoted follower of Christ. She had a gift for giving, with a heart filled with love and compassion. Kathy never showed hesitation when it came to helping others, especially her friends and family.
She was an avid quilter, who enjoyed making quilts for our veterans through Quilts of Valor, along with her friends and family. She was a member of the Quilters Guild and several other organizations. Kathy was also state and nationally recognized for her incredible quilts. She enjoyed camping; making several trips to Branson, which always included Silver Dollar City and a trip to the Buffalo River to see friends. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, taking them to summer camps, the library and attending several sporting events. Her other hobbies included reading, cooking, and baking, and watching sports, as she was a loyal fan of the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Kathy was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, and son, Victor. She is survived by her son, Charles Maxey and wife Sonny of Del City, Oklahoma; daughter, Sharon Thompson and husband Troy of Fayetteville, Arkansas; brother, Earl Rains; grandchildren, Meagan, Bailey, Steven, and Clifford; great-grandchildren, Samantha and Leo; and nieces, Angela, Sarah and Emily.
The viewing will be on Monday, 1-8pm, with the family present from 4-6pm at Mercer-Adams. Services will be on Tuesday, December 13, 10:00am at Mercer-Adams Chapel with interment following in Bethany Cemetery.
The service will be live streamed and available to watch on this obituary page.
