Kathryn Strader Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Palmer Marler Funeral Home - Cushing on May 16, 2024.
Kathryn Dorthean Reece Strader passed away at Stillwater Medical Center on May 13, 2024. She was born at her parents' home in Twin Mounds on February 1, 1936, to Lonnie and Omah Hankins Reece. She was called Kat or sometimes Kathy by her family and friends. Her smile and laugh would light up a room. She often had an ornery gleam in her eyes that made her children laugh because she was up to something.
Kathryn's early years were spent in Yale at her parents' farm. She began her school at Forest Home in a one room school house. Kathryn and her sisters had to transfer to Yale Public School when she was going into second grade. She graduated from Yale in 1954.
She married the love of her life and high school sweetheart James (Sandy) Strader on June 13, 1954. They began their lives together in Yale and started their family there. The couple was blessed with two children, Gayla Jean and Rusty Lynn. They later moved to Texas before settling down in Tulsa, where they raised their children. Kathryn became a beautician and went to work at her sister Coleen's hair salon. She later became the owner of the salon. Kathryn and Sandy loved to travel. They took many family vacations and made numerous memories that were never forgotten. They also enjoyed square dancing and craft fairs. They built their dream home on the farmland Kathryn was raised up on in Yale with the help of family and friends. Kathryn was an amazing painter until her arthritis got too bad in her hands. She also enjoyed Bunco and meals with family and friends.
Kathryn and Sandy were involved with their children's activities growing up. Kathryn was a mother advisor for Red Forks order of Rainbow Girls, a member of Eastern Stars, a Post Noble of Rebekah Lodge, and a PTA president. They attended many baseball games and rodeos to watch their son and later two of the grandchildren. The couple would also support the grandchildren later by attending Yale FFA functions and shows.
Many years after Sandy passed away, Kathryn married Gerald Doll in 2004, who passed away in 2020. She was thankful for the help and thoughtfulness of Bill and Amanda Doll since Gerald's passing.
Kathyrn was a member of the Church of Christ for several years. She loved the Lord and passed that knowledge and love on to her family. She loved spending time with her family. She would watch and sometimes join in the fun around the pool in the backyard with the kids.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, and sister Estella Colleen Hart.
She is survived by her children, Gayla and Jimmie Brown of Tulsa and Rusty and Johnie Strader of Yale. Grandchildren: Stacye Lewis and Jack Miller, Robyn Johnson all of Tulsa; Byrum and Lyndee Strader of Perry, Deonna and Kris Cox of Yale, Jennifer and Calvin Myers of Moore.
Great-grandchildren: Zachery and Jordan Lewis, Nathanial and Abbigail Norman, Tabitha Sullivan, Charli Cox, Kaytlin and Kyler Myers. One sister Geneva Clawson, Brothers: LD Reece and wife Kathy, Fred Mitchell and many nephews and nieces and relatives.
A visitation will be from 3PM - 8PM on Friday, May 17 at Palmer Marler Funeral Home's Chapel in Cushing, Oklahoma. Graveside services will be at 2PM on Saturday, May 18, at Lawson Cemetery's Pavilion in Yale, Oklahoma. Minister Brad Skinner will be officiating with services under the direction of Palmer Marler Funeral Home.
