Kathryn "Kathy" Belcore, born on September 23, 1953, peacefully passed away surrounded by loved ones on October 4th, 2024, at the age of 71. A woman whose heart overflowed with love for her family, community, and the world, Kathy leaves behind a legacy of compassion, strength, and generosity. She was the embodiment of warmth and kindness, touching countless lives as a dedicated hospice nurse, nurturing homemaker, and passionate volunteer.
Kathy's life was filled with love and adventure. She had a special bond with her grandchildren, who brought immense joy to her life. Whether hosting grand tea parties or planning family camping trips, Kathy always made sure there was something magical and memorable for her loved ones. Her annual Christmas card photo was a cherished family tradition, reflecting the deep bond she shared with her husband, Anthony Joseph Belcore, and their children.
Her culinary talents were legendary, with her famous baked artichokes becoming a staple at family gatherings. Kathy loved to entertain, especially at the family's beloved lake house. She found great joy in cooking for her family and hosting festive gatherings where her home was always open and filled with laughter. Even the simplest of activities, like McDonald's runs and watching movies, became treasured moments with her grandchildren.
Kathy's love for the outdoors was apparent in her many hobbies. She enjoyed kayaking, hiking, boating, and long walks on the beach, where she could reflect and appreciate the beauty of nature. Whether camping in the woods or gardening in her backyard, Kathy found peace and fulfillment in the natural world. She also loved to travel, exploring destinations such as Maui, Italy, Ireland, Thailand, the Virgin Islands, Mexico, Guatemala, Germany, and Austria. One of her lifelong dreams was to go on a safari in Africa and visit Israel, places that sparked her curiosity and sense of wonder.
A graduate of McHenry High School's class of 1972 and Miss Wonderlake that same year, Kathy went on to earn her bachelor's degree in nursing from Triton College in 1984. Her dedication to nursing was unwavering, and she spent over 30 years as a hospice nurse, caring for those in their final moments with unmatched compassion and sensitivity. It was in this work that Kathy's caring nature truly shined. She was a pillar of strength and support for her patients and their families, often described as sensitive, hardworking, and selfless.
In addition to her professional work, Kathy was deeply involved in her church and community. She was a devout member of St. Michael's Church in Barrington, where she sang in the choir, served on the altar guild, and taught Sunday school. Kathy also gave her time to various volunteer efforts, including serving as a Cub Scout den mother and helping at PADS homeless shelter. One of her most remarkable contributions was her work in Hurricane Katrina relief efforts, demonstrating her deep commitment to helping those in need.
Kathy's favorite songs were a reflection of her joyful spirit and love of life. She found solace and beauty in tunes like "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" by Israel Kamakawiwo ole and "Viva la Vida" by Coldplay. The words of "Calling All Angels" were particularly meaningful to her, and "Gloria in Excelsis Deo" was a favorite hymn that reflected her deep faith.
Kathy was a woman of extraordinary character, known for her resilience, generosity, and unwavering love for those around her. Her sensitivity and empathy touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. She was always ready to lend a hand or a kind word, and her love of life was contagious. She will be remembered not only for her accomplishments but also for the joy and love she brought into the world.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Anthony Joseph Belcore, her children: Benjamin (Heather) Belcore, Anthony (Miranda) Belcore, and Raphael Belcore. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Giavanna, Annabelle, Anthony IV and Aubree. Also her extended family, including her siblings Amy Kroncke Gibbons, Edward Herbert Kroncke, Jeffrey Alan Kroncke, LuAnn Kroncke -McAuliffe along with many nieces and nephews. Kathy's late siblings David Kroncke and Martin Dryer are fondly remembered, along with friends and community members who were touched by her spirit.
Kathy's life will be celebrated on Thursday, October 17th, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Justen's Funeral Home, 3700 Charles J Miller Road McHenry IL 60050, followed by a church service at St. Michael's Church in Barrington on Friday, October 18th, at 11:00 a.m. In memory of Kathy, her family encourages all who knew her to gather in joy, share stories, and continue her legacy of love and service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to PADS Homeless Shelter or a charity close to Kathy's heart. Her family would like to thank everyone for their support during this time and asks that Kathy's memory be honored through acts of kindness and generosity-just as she lived her life.
