Kathy Lee Green Bell, 68, of Gastonia, NC passed away January 11, 2023 at Caromont Regional Medical Center. She was born on February 24, 1954 to the late Leonard and Juanita Green. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, Barry M. Bell; brother, Delton Green; sister, Frankie Davis; and stepson, Marty Bell.
Kathy was a 1972 graduate of Hunter Huss High School. She was a teacher assistant for Gaston County Schools for 20 years. She was named Teacher Assistant of the Year at Chapel Grove Elementary School in 2011-2012 and in 2015-2016. She also worked for Dr. Michael Clinard for 20 years and was employed with Moss Drugs. Kathy was a member of Loray Baptist Church for 50 years.
Kathy was a very special mom, sister, aunt, friend, wife, and companion who never met a stranger and loved her family very much. Her contagious smile would light up the room and her laughter would make others laugh just by being around her. Kathy spent her life caring for others whether it was at the dentist office, while she was a teacher assistant, or when a family member was sick. Early on, Kathy and Barry would throw lots of swim parties at their house. They enjoyed beach camping trips and traveling with their friends. One of Kathy’s greatest joys in life was her granddaughter, Harlie. They spent as much time together as they could. Her most precious title was that of “Nana.” After her retirement, she was able to do what most of us hope to do. She and Don traveled all over the country. Their love for waterfalls and NASCAR racing kept them busy. Kathy had a special relationship with her nieces. They would take girls trips to the beach and spend countless hours talking and laughing together. Kathy will be missed by all who know her but by her family the most.
Survivors include her son and wife, Chuck and Elizabeth Bell; granddaughter, Harlie Bell; stepson, Andrew Bell; step grandchildren, Jana Barker, Kade Barker, Brandon Bell, and Morgan Bell; sisters, Fifi Green, Mary Ann Grindstaff (Mickey), and Diane Haskin (LJ); beloved companion and retirement traveling partner, Don Lowe; nieces, Lynne Stamey (Jimmy), Susan Rogers, Brooke Martin (Bill), Betsy White (Josh), and Mandy Dellinger; nephews, Don Davis, Jr. (Kerrie) and Brian Dellinger (Shea); great nephews and nieces, Alex Hall (Megan), Allen Michael Rogers (Alyssa), Caroline Curtis, and Kassie White; sister-in-law, Jannine Dellinger (Gary); aunt, Mallory Wilkerson (John); and her family by choice, Shannon, Jason, Tyler and London Waterman, Brian, Ann and William Lowe, Dee Jaye Canipe and Doris Corrella, Kristy and Jakob Kirkendall, and Angie Goebel.

I knew Kathy from Chapel Grove. She was a precious friend for many years. We lost touch after I retired except for our Facebook comments. I followed all her travels over the past few years. Kathy will be greatly missed. Prayers for her family.
