Kathy Brown Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Barnes-Friederich & Pope Funeral Home - Midwest City on Dec. 11, 2023.
Kathy June (Clifton, Smith) Brown passed away at home in OKC, OK, December 8, 2023 at the age of 73 surrounded by her family. Kathy was born in Norman, OK, on February 21, 1950 to parents Marion and Lillie Clifton. She grew up and attended Moore Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1968. In February before graduation, she completed her cosmetology class becoming a licensed hair stylist working for Miss Peggy's Hair Salon. During this time at Moore High School, she met her first husband, James Ronald Smith. James became a casualty of the Vietnam War during their first year of marriage leaving Kathy as a young widow.
Kathy continued her education at the University of Oklahoma. Soon she met and fell in love with yet another serviceman, Edward L. Brown Jr. of Moore, OK. They married on February 26, 1971 establishing a home in OKC, OK. Kathy continued her hair stylist career, while Ed studied to become a minister of the gospel at Midwest Christian College. With two young sons, they moved to Blackwell, OK, where Ed served as the pulpit minister and Kathy had her own hair salon in Tonkawa, OK. Kathy enjoyed being a minister's wife, raising her two sons and sharing her home and talents of hospitality for the next 17 years in Blackwell. Many fun times were spent as a family fishing and camping at nearby lakes and enjoying the boys' sports activities and all the church related activities. Kathy was a woman of many talents including cooking, crafts, decorating her home with her love of thrift shopping, and playing her saxophone in the church orchestra.
Moving back to OKC, OK in 1997 she continued her career at J.C. Penny's hair salon with 20 years of service before retiring from there in 2017. She was often chosen and received the Outstanding Hair Stylist of the Sooner Mall salon and southwest districts. She received a trip twice to Miami Beach, Florida as recognition of talent and top producing hair stylist. Sharing her talents as a hair stylist and her love of God, Kathy shared her faith daily and encouraged many clients and coworkers to seek Christ. Using her ability to listen, counsel, and give needed advice, she became everyone's loved friend.
Kathy leaves a husband of 52 years of the home, Edward L. Brown, two sons, Eddie Brown and wife Cindy, of Blackwell, OK., Jeremy Brown and wife Michelle, of OKC, OK., four grandchildren; who lovingly addressed her as Meme: Zachary Brown, Maggie Brown, of Blackwell, OK., Bailey Brown and Archer Brown, one great-grandson, Christopher Brown of OKC, OK., brother, Carroll Clifton of OKC, OK., and a sister, Kay Key of Tuttle, OK.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents Robert Marion and Lillie (Willingham) Clifton, and a sister, Venita L. Clifton. She leaves behind numerous family members, niece, nephews and cousins who will be missing her warm-loving presence.
