Chester - Kathy Irene (Nickerson) Javner, age 52, of Chester, Maine, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2026, in her hometown of Chester, Maine. She was born on December 3, 1973, in
Lincoln, Maine, to Donald B. Nickerson and Bonnie (Ireland) Nickerson.
Kathy lived a life marked by deep faith, boundless joy, and an unwavering belief in the potential of others.
A passionate follower of Christ, her faith was not only something she professed, but something she lived out daily.
Kathy and her husband dedicated years of their lives to serving in Senegal, West Africa, where they founded Legacy International, a nonprofit that focused on vocational training and medical relief for malnourished children.
A devoted educator, Kathy poured her heart into teaching and mentoring young people. She encouraged her students to discover their passions, recognize their gifts, and to believe in themselves.
Kathy's commitment to service extended into public life where she proudly served eight years in the Maine State Legislature as a House Representative for Districts 29 and 141. Kathy was loved by her constituents and dedicated to her district with authenticity, and integrity.
Above all else, Kathy was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She had a special gift for nurturing her children's passions and natural talents, creating an environment where they felt supported, believed in, and empowered to pursue dreams they never thought possible. As a grandmother, she was warm, endearing, and full of joy, delighting in every moment spent with her grandchildren.
Kathy is survived by her beloved husband, Chris Javner; her children, Christopher Javner II, Sahara Javner, and Katahdin Javner; and her cherished grandchildren, Robbie, Gabe, and Charlotte; mother, Bonita Nickerson; siblings, Ramona York, Melanie Imes, Bruce Nickerson, April Knight, and Catrina Nickerson and many nieces and nephews.
Kathy believed wholeheartedly in living life to its fullest. She had a rare ability to notice the beauty in the smallest details and to help others see the world through that same lens. Kathy delighted in wonder, imagination, and the simple joys of life. She had a deep love for Maine's natural beauty, holding a special affection for Mount Katahdin, a place that brought her peace.
Those who knew Kathy will remember her for her infectious laughter, her radiant smile, and a joy that filled every room she entered.
